for those experienced on the path to enlightenment
    #1809351 - 08/13/03 12:50 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

hey there, i have started meditating recently and i am now able to clear my mind sometimes at will but i will still have a few thoughts pop in my head during meditation. anyways i was wonderin, i know you have to be patient but all i do when i meditate is clear my head. i never feel this pure bliss, or see visions, or any of that that most people say they see. should i meditate and focus on something or just keep clearin my head? any suggestions please. thankyou.

You may find "Journey of Awakening, the meditators guidebook" by Baba Ram Dass to be of some practical value, answers a LOT of questions for those that are just starting out meditating

Focus on your dreams for right now...cause a dream is basically just a time when your conscious mind is connecting with your unconscious mind, hence it's a great time to cleanse the body and hone your skills. If you pay close attention to your dreams you can usually get a feel for things in your life that need improving. If you then attempt to make such improvements you willl likely experience less and less informative dreams and more and more that are 'just for fun' so to speak. These are the sort of dreams that you can actually control, and learning to do that will help tremendously in your meditations.

I do see a lot of things while meditating, but only if I work on my chakras and stimulate them. It helps to quiet the mind before doing that kind of stuff though so your on a good start.

Just sit.

If something pops into your head, when you realize it, just let it go.  Don't scold yourself or try harder or anything... simply start again and continue.

Buddha recommended two practices: clearing your mind, and observing mindfulness. Clearing your mind helps freeing your consciousness from attachments and passions. Observing mindfulness gives insight into the workings of your mind, which makes you see through the illusions present in the world of perceptions. Both practices are needed to reach enlightenment through meditation, according to the Buddha.

I haven't experienced any of this except while tripping, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

From your post title I get the feeling that you feel meditation = the path to enligthenment. Do you feel this is the only path? Must one meditate in order to become enlightened?

I don't think you would obtain it if it was teh goal of your spirituality either...
In fact i think one would only experience true enlightenment at death, assuming they followed the spiritual path most thier life...

we all are part of a whole, any experience has potential bring realization, perhaps each experience is realization...thus, we were "enlightend" from the start....but enough about this enlightenment..just so many useless words

Skip is curious about controling your dreams. Are there any good books on this? If this is done, how can this
help meditation?

I think that dreams are the mind working out some of its problems partly...and other dreams are highly significant....they say when a Saint visits you in a dream, 100% of the time its because they chose to do so... I've had some experiences where I was told about future events...

I have recently also been freeing my head of thought....this is a priceless thing because thats where all our problems exist...

i've been reading this book;

"There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem"

by Dr. Wayne Dyer....he spits knowledge! he quotes St. Francis to Patanjali, Ramana Maharshi...Math mathitions (how do you spell that?)

heres a quote i just read out of the book

"There is nothing wrong with God's creation. Mystery and suffering only exist in the mind......" - Ramana Maharshi

he talks about bringing spirit...or the higher faster energy of love to the low slow energies of problems...anger...etc... and it nullifies em....its good stuff

definitely something fun to do is try to not think...its very difficult

they say the music is the silence between the notes

I'd say that they are wrong.. music is the interaction between the notes and the silence between them..
Peace.

Sure would.

Was that to me, though, man? I think that music is the interaction between the notes and silence.. as the most basic level. Dynamics, accents, are really what kicks you in the teeth..
Peace.

yeah sorry I just got done reading mndfreezes racist rant towards me (he doesnt even know what race i am)... i forgot i was in the spiritual forum

I agree with you, but the saying is a profound one...

without the silence between the notes there would be no music

same goes with our thoughts... all our problems exist in the mind... so the answer to them is in silence.... I beleive theres alot of wisdom to be had by quieting the mind

they say thoughts are like throwing stones into the pond of life....sends out ripples on the surface so we cant see to the truth on the bottom.

Yeah, dude, I totally agree with you. I was just saying that it isn't just silence that makes it, but what you meant by it is profound. And, in the case of certain death and trash metal bands, the absence of silence is what makes the music.... hehe
Peace.
