NOOOO! Mold
    #1809186 - 08/13/03 12:02 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

OK so this is my first attempt at growing. 7 of my 12 jars appeared to have survived. A few of them when I took them out had tiny tiny pieces of green mold on them and I guess stupidly I thought I could save them, so I scratched them off with a sterile knife, cold shocked/dunked for 6 hours. by the time I took them out many of the cakes had developed kindof a green tint, I hoped that was just normal. After putting them in the growth chamber, they all have a green tint now, within 6 more hours. So my question, can I shave off the outside layer and do a casing on the rest? or can I save them in some other way? Or should I just fucking go by a pressure cooker and throw out all my hard work?

Thanks guys.

A slight greenish blue tint is normal bruising from the dunk. Any cakes that are obviously moldy should be discarded immediately. You can either case or fruit the rest, your choice.

How did you cold shocked/dunked them? I mean all cakes together, each cake in his jar or what.

each cake in their own jar, and do it for like 12 hours next time

As for contams, unless it's cobweb immediatly get it away from all other cakes and chuck it outdoors in a hole somewhere and hope for the best

Well now that I look at it, it is a greenish blue tint that kindof uniformly appeared on all the cakes. I think I freaked out because it happened so suddenly and I was expecting them to stay white. I suspect there may be mold on one or two of them so I'm going to take a closer look. I'll post when/if I get my first flush. Thanks again.
