Its both, but hitting into a double play is a particular mistake by the batter and good play by the pitcher. A fly ball generally results in an out, but if there is a man on third with less than 2 outs he can tag up and score making it a sacrifice fly and the batter is not charged with an at bat, and is credited with a run batted in.
Remember that the best batters fail to get a hit two thirds of the time, but with luck or skill they may be able to advance a runner. If there are runners on first and/or second you want to hit the ball to right side because it gives the runners a good chance of advancing. If there is a runner on third and less than 2 out you want to hit the ball in the air as far as possible even if its an easy out so the runner will score.

Definitely baseball 101.
I feel kind of silly adding this but with runners on base a good pitcher will try to lure the batter in with a breaking ball or change-up so if he does connect the comparative lack of velocity will allow for the infielders more time to make a play while also increasing the likelyhood of the ball flying off foul or bouncing around where a fielder can get his hands on it.

Not for nothing but it is starting to look like the Mariners got completely hosed in that trade even if Pineda missed a year and a half. Jury is still out, obviously, but it sure is trending that way.

My pitcher Felix Hernandez has the start tonight at home with the "supreme court" it's gonna be badass, tune in.

Bumgarner with 5 RBI's against the Rockies last night, including a grand slam!! And I didn't get to watch because I was at some birthday bbq. I can't believe I chose social interaction over watching TV!

Braves going back to back to back last night, sick shit. Avilan blows it, Uggla grand slam.
Say what you want about uggla, but he'll always hit 20+ homers and walk a bunch. He still blows cock though.

He is a serviceable major league player. That's it. A few years ago he was better but that's all he is now.

He broke the Braves franchise strike out record last year. Breaking the previous record set by none other than Dan Uggla the year before. Apparently dude was going blind though, maybe that lasik eye surgery fixed him up.

Dan Uggla? I can't forget that all-star game where he made 3 errors in one inning. I didn't know he was setting strikeout records. He waited too long to get his eyes checked.

Cubs will lose.
On opening day their fans boo Ryne Sandberg, their last great player and hall of famer.
Long before I was born their management did something wrong involving a goat.
You can't make this stuff up.

Giants-Dodgers played til friggin 12:15 this morning. Giants left the bases loaded at least 3 times in that game, including once in extra innings. I spent nearly 5 hours watching it, I probably woulda been pretty pissed if they lost

Lol, Cubs fans and their butt hurt superstitions.
And a big LoL to Steven Strasburg and the Nationals. What a head case that guy is. him and Harper are a bit overrated. I'm not trying to knee jerk the nats this early on, but stras looks like a glorified middle reliever, not a starter.
