Mad Bum just became the first pitcher in MLB history to hit 2 home runs in a game, and he might get another at bat.
(Not going to happen but) That's how Babe Ruth started out, a great pitcher who was such a great hitter and slugger they put him in the outfield so he would hit everyday. Not sure if that happened when the Red Sox traded him to the Yankees. At any rate that trade and the Red Sox hundred year World Series drought brought the phrase "The Curse of the Bambino". Actually Boston sold him so the owner could finance a Broadway play. Disgusting.
And since I'm in the mood for Trivia, With Zappa gone FakeSunRa would be the only other one who might remember when the Cincinatti Reds were the Cincinatti Red Legs, because of communism.
Sorry Ran-D they gave you bad information. In my youth Braves pitcher Tony Cloninger hit two grand slams in one game.

Yea, I see the headlines today say "1st pitcher on opening day...". I swear when it happened they said first ever. Doesn't really matter since we picked up right where we left off last season. Shit gave me flashbacks.

Well, Mike Trout has already hit into a double play. He only hit into 5 all last year.

The Chicago White Sox who had some great players, but couldn't win them are following the Cubs/Theo Epstein policy of completely starting from scratch and received many of the highest rated recruits for their stars. What this resulted in yesterday was the first time in history that an entire outfield was all named Garcia. (I believe the three Alou brothers once started in the outfield for one team, probably S.F. but not sure).
Returning to Epstein, still pretty young, I believe he goes down as the greatest exec in Baseball history. Building two teams that won World Series after 100 year plus droughts has to surpass Branch Rickey's breaking the color barrier with Jackie Robinson. Given his age does Epstein stick around to win with the Cubs, or maybe go for another unprecedented success. The only thing that pops into my mind is the Nats, formerly the Expos.

Saw the Garcia thing, pretty funny.
I agree about Theo. Best ever.
The Indians have the longest drought now, right? Could go there...? I don't recall San Diego having much success ever. Could be wrong there..?

Indians have the longest, I believe.
I just got back home after a weekend in Wrigleyville. It figures the Cubs would drop 4 straight
The bats are in a slump, which is expected from time to time, but our bullpen is a steaming pile of shit right now. We gotta bring someone in soon.

The Orioles are rated 1st in the power rankings...not that that means a rats ass this time of year but, it's nice to see. The pitching has been great (except for Jimanez) and I can't imagine any pitcher would want to pitch against their lineup....power all the way through.
It's a long season....here we go.

Mad Bum out indefinitely after a fucking dirt bike accident. What a retard. Do what you want in the offseason man, this shit is unforgiveable. There goes the Giants season.

I am all for doing what you want on your own time, but when there is this much guaranteed money involved, there has to be a limit on what is allowed without breaching a contract.

To be fair, he only accounts for 1 out of 5 games, and his replacement may do well... It could cost them 15 wins, or 3. Nobody knows.
Having said that, I'd be pissed if the Cubs lost their star hurler.

Maybe he will gain some self-control from this experience, which he could use on the mound. And you're right he only makes up 1/5 starts, but he's the most important out of those 5 and the other starters have been less than stellar so far. Matt Cain has been the best which is shocking considering everyone was calling for Ty Blach to take his place. Now Ty Blach has to start anyway.
This has been one of the craziest starts to a season I've ever seen. First Buster gets beamed in the head with a fast ball, then Bochy gets another heart surgery, then Parker breaks his shoulder (?) running into the wall, then Span runs into the wall and gets hurt, and now this Bum dirt bike crash. Pretty sure I'm leaving a couple injuries out.
They had to call up their minor league star Christian Arroyo yesterday. He played solid defense but went 0-4, so now he gets the challenge of getting his first major league hit off Kershaw.

Pence got hurt the other day when he slipped in the outfield and missed a fly ball. I'm not sure if it cost him any time other than that game.

They were saying something about him having a bruised knee. Also, Matt Cain strained his hamstring last night. He's had hammy problems in the past but now is not the time.

Adam Eaton out for the year. Huge blow for the Nationals, especially after all that they gave up for him.
I loved watching Eaton play with the White Sox for the couple of years that they had him. Great player. Hopefully, it is an injury that he will recover from.

Matt Kemp hit 3 home runs last night during their game with the brew crew. That's a first for Kemp's career. Braves dealt 20 hits last night. Awesome!

I love how all the bad blood between The Orioles and the Red Sox has played out. After getting thrown at or behind on several occasions...Machado replies with a 486 foot HR over the green Monster and into the street for a finale....his third of the series. He let his bat and defensive prowess do the talking. Nice.

That helmet throw
Giants still shitting the bed. Last year they were dominating at the all-star break then fell apart completely, hopefully the opposite happens this year.
