oh well, imo they both got overpaid. I think the yankees expect bmac to hit like 30 homers on that shallow porch in right field.

McCann is one of the top 3 catchers, offensively and defensively, who still catch. Posey don't catch. Mauer don't catch. I think it's a good signing. The fucking Mets gave Chris Young 7+. Really?

Yeah.
It's a huge loss for the Braves and the Yankees filled an important need.

I just want to know what the phills are thinking, going for oldest team in the history of sports? first they don't unload any of their old players, then they nab Marlon Byrd, who goes from being paid 700k/year to 8 million in the twilight of his career, ok....now they act like they want to sign Bronson Aroyo, as if they weren't already ancient enough.
I honestly thought they would clean house after the AS break, especially with all the current young talent in the east....
But for the Braves, who will play left field if Gattis is behind the plate? so many variables in the outfield this year cause of fucking BJ upton.
And I guess we bring up La Stella at 2b?
I still say we need to pick up a starter

Not for nothing but if Gattis' bat is doing the catching you can afford to put a catcher in left. They need a catcher.
I don't know why the Braves are fucking with Gattis' bat. Fuck catching, just get him to the plate.

Detroit just traded quality starter Doug Fister to Washington for 3 prospects. This comes right after trading Prince Fielder and letting Johnny Peralta go. The Tigers are strong at starting pitching, but you can't have too many of them. I guess future salary was a concern. Can't believe they were actually shopping Max Scherzer, until this trade. I guess they figured Scherzer's good, but he's never going to be as good as he was this year. (That's exactly what the Cubs thought when they let Gregg Maddux go after a Cy Young) There's only one way this move makes sense to me. That's if the Tigers put together a real good bullpen, which was the only thing keeping them from a Championship.

Tigers need to keep miggy healthy as well, that dude was on one leg for a while...
That's interesting tho the Nats just got rid of Dan Haren, a decent 3 or 4 starter, and then get Fister for prospects?
I wonder if they get Cano

I don't think they go for Cano unless somebody can switch positions, cause they traded Fielder for a good second basemen, Ian Kinsler. And I don't think anybody is going to take Cano until he cuts about 100 million off his price tag. He was talking 300 plus million for 10 years. The media people were saying somebody might go for 200 million for 7 years with half guaranteed.
These long term contracts keep getting crazier, but the owners never learn.

Yeah I was thinking the Nats might get him, they are a wealthy team and they need a bat....they are probably going to move zimmerman to first, rendon to 3rd, and then put cano at second. they have they money to do it anyways.
I heard the yankees won't take him over like 180mil, no one is giving him 300mil IMO....I think people are catching on that these long-term big money contracts usually arn't worth it....so I don't think he will get anywhere close to 300, I could see the Nats giving him like 240 or something....they would have a huge advantage over the braves at second base with cano

Fister to Washington eh? Interesting because he just bought a million dollar home back here in our home town in central Cali. How athletes manage to live on one side of the country and play on the other is beyond me.

Hey if Posey didn't get hurt the Giants might have got 3 Championships in a row
In all seriousness though, I didn't know collisions were that big a deal. Crazy stuff.

They should make the rule so that the catcher has to get up in the face of everyone passing home, like BMAC.

I'm gonna wait until I see the actual text of the rule. So far this is just a concept. I have noticed over the last few years that most catchers now receive a throw well in front of the plate and swipe back. They could always have chosen that.

There have been a few injuries, but I always viewed it as an equal battle. The runner has the momentum and the catcher has the protective equipment. Pete Rose did mess Ray Fosse up permanently though.
I would like to keep it around. Baseball is such a noncontact sport that was spiced up by a few violent exceptions. The play at the plate. Breaking up the double play. Pitchers throwing some chin music. Outfielders running into the wall or each other. I like it when people dive into the dugouts for foul balls because when it's your dugout they catch you, and if its the other dugout you're on your own.

I think whats more important is protecting the pitchers a little more. Its horrific when a pitcher gets a comebacker to the head.
