cities like portland without shitty weather?
    #18079650 - 04/08/13 10:27 PM (11 years, 10 days ago)

im going to be moving in the next few months and pretty much the entire western united states is open to me, I currently live in southern Oregon and can barely stand the gray down here, however Portland has always appealed to me due to the culture. so can anyone recommend any cities large or small that have a similar vibe yet are in a less gray climate? Hell i'll take recommendations for any city in the western united states that seems cool, although I do have a preference for places on the coast, though its not a must have.

What the fuck are you talking about?
Portland has idyllic weather.

You're going to be hard-pressed to find a coastal town that doesn't have similar weather to pdx.
You could move to San Diego, or something. San Diego is a giant bucket of dicks, though.

Same thing going on with me, but in Vancouver.

CAN NOT HANDLE THE DRIZZLE.

Seattle is sweet though - but, shitty weather too.

What about San Fransisco?

my uncle lived in seattle for a bit, had to leave due to the weather though.

San Francisco would be bad ass, its just expensive as fuck and i have no local connections though. Might be tough to swing it since this will be my first time moving out! But i do plan on ending up there eventually

yeah, san Francisco is your best bet if you want that size. your other options are seattle, la, san diego, flagstaff is more like Eugene, so smaller. ooh, then there's Bakersfield. you must smell Bakersfield. it's the shit pile of California.

If you don't mind a smaller place, one of my favorite spots in California has always been Carmel.

you guys are mentioning all of the larger cities in California. There are a lot of nice smaller cities in southern/central CA. I would recommend Ventura county northward. Some of the places you need money to live in, but there are other cities there that arent as expensive. Goleta, Lompoc, Pismo Beach. I have lived in Ventura, Camarillo, and Oxnard. Great weather, and you don't have the So Cal mentality. Not to mention the pace is a lot slower than the concrete jungle aka LA to San Diego.

austin, texas is often espoused as the sister city to portland.

on a whole i dont suggest moving to texas, but IF you do, austin is one of the few places thats tolerable to live, imo.

Tahoe, hotties in the summer snow bunnies in the winter. South lake is very laid back Portland style.

Sure do.
Without a doubt, the greatest place I've ever been.
Very easy to get around with or without a car, plenty of concerts, lot's of bars, incredible weed, the mountains are just minutes away, the weather is great, it's clean, lots of bike lanes, bike trails & bike paths if you like to bike, awesome breweries (in Boulder & elsewhere in Colorado), and Denver is about 40 minutes away.
It's not easy to have a bad day out here

There is nothing really like Portland.  I am rather effected by S.a.d as well, but I stock up on vitamin D, and sensory deprivation float a lot.  :vaped:

The culture keeps me here, certainly not the weather.

If you like hot weather, I recommend old-town Pasadena, it's full of nothing but hipsters and Portland-types.

Stay away from the LBC and OC, that's pretty much where all the douchebags go to die, and where all my bro's live.

I love my P-Town too much to give up, only thing I'd trade it for is Alaska.

Have you been to Laguna Beach in the OC? Beautiful city, very nice people... Problem is, good luck living there if you're not a millionaire.
