Should I put Dry Verm Layer in my 1pint millet jars?

100% white millet and water in 1 pint jars.

oyster mushrooms (legal)
i will soak seed for 15 hours, rinse, draine for 30 minutes and fill jars.


I am thinking about birthing some of these cakes PF style and casing the rest.

The jars that I birth, should i put dry verm layer on top of jar like you would do with PF?

Yeah you probably don't need a dry verm layer. Not to try and contradict you shirley, but it is also in some corn TEK's, most notably everybody's favorite grandmaster hippie's hominy TEK. He put a dry verm layer in there... not sure why exactly. Perhaps to catch sweat from overhydrated hominy.

You want to be able to shake grains to help it colonize faster. It spreads mycelium to other parts of the jars that aren't colonized yet.

you can add 10-20% of damp vermiculite to the millet mix if you want. ive even had success with dark rye flour, whole millet, and vermiculite mixtures. just dont get it too wet.
