Waiting for b+'s to pin...
    #1805485 - 08/12/03 02:22 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Okay my friend has just two cakes in the fruiting chamber, the fruiting chamber is 2 inches of cleansed lava rocks and 1 3/4 inches of water, two airstones on each side of the terrarium, the cakes sit about 1/2 inch above the lava rocks on a grill like metal thing, I'm not sure what it is he found it at home depot. Now, the b+'s were dunked and cold shocked 2 days after 100% colonization. He did, however, forget to get a paper towel and pat dry them, they were just placed into the terrarium, there are white knots everywhere for the last 3 days, He's been fanning out the chamber about 3 times a day. So his question is: Is he doing something wrong or is it just the b+'s being an extremely slow strain

Yes, he's being impatient.  Things are right on schedule. He will  see pins soon.

for me, B+ take forver to pin. 5 days is normal. the white knots are a good sign.

try to keep your humidity up over 90% at ALL times. when you open the terrarium to fan you lose humidity for 10 minutes or so and this comes as a 'shock' to the mycellium. fanning once a day is well enough. once i get a good pinset i fan once every 2-3 days or so

fanning needs to occur more often than what you are giving, your shrooms will appreciate it by giving you more, bigger shrooms.
a light misting before you fan will help with this problem of the rh dropping when you fan. it is recommended to have 1-3 air exchanges per HOUR. less and you will be harming rather than helping.

just wait it out, if you are seeing knotting then you are well on your way.
good luck

peace

B+ May be the most stubborn to pin, but is an excellent choice for beginners as the temperature range in which they can be produced is very broad. So it allows a little room for a margin of mistake.
Keep at it, and be patien.

B+ is not stubborn at all. I have been growing B+ on cakes for over a year and they ALWAYS pin 5-7 days. Never failed me once.
