I've been pulled over by the RCMP for speeding RIGHT after smoking a joint in the car...he asked if that was weed he was smelling, since the car was still cloudy, I said "yes"..he asked if had any more of it...I said "no" (despite the bud sitting by the stick shift in plain site)...he gave me my speeding ticket and I was on my way.

The police here in general, seem to know that weed is not a big deal.

he gave you a speeding ticket?  I thought you were free? :smirk:

I do like the fact that the laws are relaxed in Canada becuae i believe it's only a matter of time before the US bows down or Canada makes it 100% legal and opens up a coffee shop in Winsor or Sarnia, Ontario....then i'll be happy.

Canada, from what I've heard, is more liberal on drug laws, social programs, and public health and education. However, they aren't that much better than the U.S. when it comes to the environment and their treatment of the Natives.

i'm all for drug freedom, but allowing people to drive under the influence is messed up.

A fair statement on both counts, although I should add that my native friend says all the time that the American natives were screwed over MUCH worse than the Canadian Natives.

This is just my opinion, but if Canada opens coffee shops anywhere, I'll bet the US will have such a hissy fit about it that they'll pressure Canada into closing them down. Time will tell.

their alcohol laws are better as well, 19 is the drinking age (at least it used to be). I used to go over to Widsor, Ont. every thursday (bar night) and tie one on. I like Canada but i'm not aboot to live there. With the exception of drug laws they are pretty much the same as the US.
