Music Player on the PC.....cd conversion to mp3?
    #1799857 - 08/10/03 10:24 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Can the average cd playing program like Windows Media Player be able to get tracks off cds as mp3s instead of other files.

Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

Try 'Audio Grabber' or Cakewalk Pyro.

They are not MP3's to begin with. So you cant pull them off a factory mad CD as an MP3. That is just simple logic. You convert the file as pulled from the cd whatever it may be. Then convert to MP3

"Shuffler" is a good free conversion utility.

Most rippers will have on-the-fly conversion, anyway.

i'd recommend exact audio copy to rip the wav tracks off the cd, this program has a secure mode to compensate for scratches and other errors on the disc

then you should convert the wavs to mp3, personally I find the best encoder is LAME 3.92, with --alt-preset standard as the command line option.

AudioGrabber uses the lame codec. I dunno what Cakewalk Pyro uses, I'm just starting to fool around with it.

Mostly I am ripping vinyl

CDEX will convert audio CDs directly to MP3

not exactly. CDEX first rips the tracks to wav, and stores them in a temp folder. then CDEX spawns your mp3 encoder of choice and the encoder encodes the wavs to mp3 files. then cdex deletes the wav files.
