Nitrogen is an inert gas at standard temperatures and pressures. and only reacts to a few reagents.

The car is a little different, since its mixed with fuel and oxygen at a specific ratio and allso under alot of pressure

Isn't nitrogen an explosive gas..? I make this relation to cars.. although I would imagine there are other things that make fire spit out the back of a need for speed most wanted car on the PS2

Lol.  If Nitrogen gas were explosive we would all be screwed as it makes up the majority of the air we breath.  Although the confusion is understandable.
As a gas, two nitrogens are stuck together (N2) and are happily inert.
When combined with Oxygen, Nitrogen makes Nitrous Oxide, which is both quite entertaining in whippets and used in cars as Nitro.  But don't go trying to light your whippets on fire, Nitrous is rather inert.  However at high temperatures it breaks apart into nitrogen and oxygen, providing an oxidizer for your engines fuel causing a stronger and more complete combustion in the engine cylinder.

This is all different from fixed nitrogen, what plants and fungus can use, which is normally a liquid and thus must be eaten.

I think when people are talking about carbon and Nitrogen in shrooms, they mostly mean carbohydrates (Carbon source) and Protein (Nitrogen source).
