Sometimes it takes about a day to see condensensation, then its at about 90% humidity. if you leave the lid off a little for air exchange add some water from time to time

It took my case about a day to show a high humidity. Spray the walls with a hand sprayer, and if the perlite is wet it should do the trick by night fall. Go to PetCo and pick up a barometer for only like 3-5 bucks. You dont really need it but it can help.

hi neverwhere, long time no see. I use perlite, and I have no problems maintaining high enough humidity. Use an inch of perlite in the bottom of your terrarium, then fill the bottom with water until it completely covers the perlite. Then use a turkey baster to suck out almost all of the water. Leave a quarter inch or less in the bottom. Doing this gets all of the perlite wet, and exposes a large surface area to the air. You don't want a pool of water in the bottom, just wet perlite. You can guage the humidity by the condensation on the sides of the terrarium. If the inside is all wet, then you're doing fine. If you aren't getting any condenstation, then check the seal on your terrarium. It should be airtight. I use a big, cheap tupperware container for my terrarium. I have to put textbooks on the corners of the lid to keep the seal good enough.good luck
