Say, you have a package coming in that is not soo legal. (not drugs) You think the popo is on it, should u just let it sit in your mail box and never bring it inside your home?
well i still be screwed if i take the package and just calmly walk to my neighbors trash can and throw it away with out ever openning it?
I need help.

Well a mailbox is considered private property so if it's in your mailbox it's on your property.
Look out for cops sitting on your street staring at your mailbox. That might be a dead give away.
If you really think someone is on your trail, then load your car up with some old junk, drive to your nearest dump and on your way pick up the package. Throw that shit where no one will find it.

OP
Is your mailbox outside?
Describe your mailbox in greater detail. Key access or no?
How far?
is it a busy street?

Technically a mailbox is property of the USPS. That is why it is a Federal crime to fuck with one. Be it your own or someone elses.

Here's just the facts.... http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/part-I/chapter-83 1716.A-E SHOULD INTEREST YOU
opinion is if they're onto it they will have the mail carrier request a signature from you and when you sign...down you go

If they wanted to do a controlled delivery then somebody would be trying to get you to sign for it, either at your residence or trying to get you to pick it up at the post office. If it made it into your mailbox and nobody tried to get you to sign for it then bring it into the house asap! You could always write return to sender on it and sit on it for a few days then see whats up! if anybody shows up asking about it you have no idea what it was, and sent it back.....

Conventional wisdom says to take the package inside, but write "return to sender" on it or something, and leave it sitting (inside? ) by the door for a few days, just in case. That way if they come knocking, you can claim that you weren't expecting it, and "see... I even wrote 'return to sender' on it..."
However, I should point out that I have heard of one case, this one involving a package containing a research chemical, where a guy claimed he did what I describe above, and they still tried to charge him with importing an unapproved new drug or some crap like that.
So that may work for a little cover-your-ass insurance, or it may not. Providing there is no other way they can tie the package and ownership back to you, it might give you a little room for deniability.

As far as signing for things at the post office, say you have something coming that is going to need to be signed for (not technically illegal, I don't believe... A certain rootbark). Now, let's assume for the sake of discussion that "they" know what's in the box and they want to have a chat with you about it when I come in to sign for it...
I find it hard to believe that they would really have a police officer or something waiting around in the back of the post office from open to close for days... Couldn't you most likely just hang on to the pick up slip for 3 days or something and then go in to pick it up? People always talk about how sketchy it is to have to sign for something at the post office but if you just wait a bit, wouldn't you be relatively secure, assuming it's not 100% illegal and video footage of you with the box would be enough for a possession charge.
