Hope this bulb will work?!? 1600 Lumens Rating
    #18033132 - 03/30/13 01:53 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

I was at Ace Hardware today looking for a 6500k bulb...no kelvin rating just everything was in Lumens. So, I looked up on the Ace website and found this 6500k bulb:

http://m.acehardware.com//product/index.jsp?productId=2903524

I asked the guy there if he had the one above. He found the product number but it is packaged different, the picture below is what I got. 1600 lumens = 6500K it said in the online description...so I should be ok?!?

It was the exact same product number and everything as the online bulb...just new packaging and no kelvin rating to be found.

I'm not even sure if artificial light is absolutely necessary or a real concern but I got it anyways.

Hmmm - not sure, though I know Kelvin is a measurement of the color spectrum, while Lumens is a measurement of brightness.

I can't see how the Kelvin rating is derived from Lumens.

Anyways, I've used that exact CFL bulb (except 60W) and it worked fine.

Okay! Thanks for the info. I did a little more research and it is indeed in the 6500k spectrum. Good to know someone else has used it! Not sure if the wattage matters as much as the kelvin rating

Cool - yeah the wattage doesn't matter (in this case).  I bought two 60W since I was using a double fixtured terrarium light (total of 120W).

It also had no Kelvin rating listed when I bought it - I'm just assuming "daylight" CFL's equate to 6500K.

I'm assuming so...I just have one bulb so I'm not even sure it will matter. We shall see in a couple of weeks when I craft my SGFC.

yes daylight means 6500k also if you look at the package and its blue then 6500k if red 3700k and yellow not worth your time. lumens probably dont make a diff but dont quote me on that.

and kelvin ratings is not from lumens. lumens is the intensity or how far the light will travel kelvin is the color or spectrum the light is in. 6500k is in the blue ranges and 3700k is in the red orange ranges the higher the kelvin the more blue or uv light you get.

Gotcha! It said on all the specs for the bulb online was that it was in the 6500K spectrum...thanks for the reaffirming reply!
