Good mycelia, but no pins
    #1803119 - 08/11/03 07:22 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I got mushrooms with good looking mycilia. Both cakes and cases. They are getting about 12 hours of light a day, and I am not getting pins. The humidity is about 85% and the temp is 76 degrees, can anyone here tell me why that might be happening?

How long has it been since they have been birthed?

Humidity should be 95-100 % for pin formation. Read this.

Hmmmm.... I have a huge terrarium, which might be my problem, it holds three cases and six cakes. It has three inches of perlite in two and a half inches of water with two bubble wands in it. How can I increase my humidity.

My cases have normally started in under five days...
But then again, I used compost and verm instead of just the verm i have used this time.

Do you think that if i raise the level of my perlite, it would wick more water up and increase humidity? How far will three inches of water wick up perlite?

Oh, and maybe I just need to seal my terrarium better so that I don't loose humidity... I'll look into that.

Not always, some praise it, some condemn it. I wouldn't do it though because it'll waterlog them so it is said. But I don't grow, so there is another reason I wouldn't do it. However, since your humidity is so low (at just 85%) I'd leave them right on the perlite. But if you can find a way to bump up the humidity, put a jar lid between the cake and perlite or tin foil or something.
