Laminar flow dust collector blower?

With 914 cfm rating... I don't know at what pressure, but a 1hp motor is more than I see on blowers capable of moving 500cfm at 1"SP
Any idea why this wouldn't work? And the bag could be used as a pre filter?? Says filters to 35 microns... Should I get another pre filter?

Down to only 35 microns is still pretty useless for mycology.

Its 1 horsepower but only 6.8 amps while my 1/2 hp furnace blower pulls 8 amps. They rate those electric motors differently. I'm sure RR or one of the other electrical guru's can explain it better. I think amps are a better indicator of its ability to push air. 914 CFM is probably a 0 static pressure rating.
I bet you could build a 1 x 2 hood out of it with a great prefilter or a 2 x 2 with basic prefilter. The size and shape of the wheel has a lot to do with its performance so its always a challenge to guess without a flow chart.
Other uses could be large grow room ventilation, Positive pressure blower for clean room, or work room air scrubber. Seems like a nice find for the price thanks!

Well yes, but I just really am trying to use the blower... And that bag would function as a secondary pre filter... This thing
Other than that Im trying to find out by calling the technical assistance line Monday :p

Or this one is still cheaper... And it filters to 5 microns....so that blower has to be operating at some kind of static pressure
The technical guy says its 88 inches of mercury .... Wtf???
What's better a 2hp or two 1hp motors??

Not for use on brushless motors.
You can't just put a cheap dimmer switch on an AC motor. To even remotely properly control the speed you need a VFD, and those aren't cheap. VFD = Variable Frequency Drive

Yes. Brushed motors are used in things like drills and saws. You can see sparks from the brushes in the dark. Most stuff that doesn't need a ton of torque is brushless.

I still haven't found a good blower,.. Been calling local AC places and they have told me for 500+ cfm at 1" pressure I need about a 1.5 ton unit blower... I don't speak AC
But I keep thinking about those dust collectors...914 cfm seems pretty good (just don't know what pressure since its built to blow into a bag) and at 1hp that's gota be worth considering... also its. 110v which would make my life easier than 220 ...
have a tight budget here and 300$+ is not in that range
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

Got a used 120V AC unit fan, squirrel cage style, off Craigslist for $40. I think it's 3/4 HP and I have half of it blocked off at the lowest speed setting.

Any normal home furnace blower will be plenty big enough for your needs. Most likely it will be too powerful and you'll have to block off part of the intake or use the lowest speed wire.
Hard to tell the size of that mini dust collector, but it looks pretty tiny compared to the blowers I usually see in furnaces.
Tell the HVAC guys you're doing a university project or building a wind tunnel or something like that and need a larger blower. Anything they consider to be a real furnace will have a plenty big blower. If they don't consider it to be small, then it will be plenty large.
