Yeah, I see what you're saying. And actually that part isn't in O'Brian's essay. It was Hollywood embellishment to make the film sell more, but I agree it rings phony (and it is phony in his real life).

I still liked the movie and give the guy a lot of credit. If I was in his situation, I probably would have checked out long ago. Fuck living like that. I don't think I could do it.
