Calendar fetishism doesn't end just because you have passed a "big" date. There are always lots of more big dates in the future. Many people thought the world would end in the year 1000. Many people thought similar things about the year 2000. Now I bet their sights are set on the year 3000, except for the impatient ones who have chosen the Mayan calendar and the year 2012 instead. But it's still just a calendar. Just a certain symmetry in the numbers, exactly like when the odometer on your car goes from 9999 to 10000.

Right about what? I don't even know what exactly the Mayan thought they could predict with their calendar, and how successful they were at predictions before they were suddenly surprised by having their civilization wiped out without warning.

I should set a date for the end of the world. Then everyone will believe me in a 1000 years when everyone looks back at our culture like we where all knowing and mystical.

you over simplify things.

the END of the mayan calendar was 2012.

so i think they said it was the end of the world. or something similar. i dont know much about that, though.

it seems pretty insignificant, really.

Many people thought the world would end in the year 1000.

Actually, if you're referring to our Gregorian calendar date, when it was the year 1000, no one had any idea it was the year 1000. The Gregorian calendar wasn't even introduced until the late 16th century. Just an FYI.

> the END of the mayan calendar was 2012

The mayan calander was more like the odometer in your car... it simply rolls over in 2012 rather than ending.

In terms of accuracy, the myan calander puts our current one to shame.

December 21, 2012 by our Gregorian calendar marks the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar, completing 13 baktuns, which was called by them the Great Cycle. The end of this Great Cycle was by no means the "end of the world" to them, because another Great Cycle simply starts the next day, like our New Year's Day. The beginning of the next Cycle denoted the beginning of a "New Age" for them. Thus many mystical and spiritual beliefs were formed around this coming of a New Age and this phrase stuck as a moniker.

I didn't refer to our Gregorian calendar, I was referring to the calendar that was in use at the time, which was the Julian calendar. If the Gregorian calendar had been invented in the year 999, it would have placed New Year's Eve about a week earlier. But this has no relevance at all. It's just yet another calendar.

Ahhh, now I understand. So when nothing happens December 21, 2012 the New Agers will just say that the New Cycle has just begun and that the transition into the 4th dimension has started. Then they will set later dates for ufo's landing and stuff. I get it now.

What a let down. I thought mabey 2012 would put a end to this non-sence.

Correct. And please note that they can never explain what they mean by terms like "dimension". It's just terminology that they have borrowed from mathematics and science, without any understanding of the real meaning of these words.

Some people don't claim to be a part of this movement, and they don't get caught up in all the bullshit spread by the ignorant, less intelligent, bumbling along people that are apparent in EVERY movement.. just as there are the people that go on and find their own meanings in the particular area, there are the majority more of people that never really fully understand what is going on, some jumping on because it is cool or trendy to do...

And it isn't the 4th dimension, it is the 4th density.. and the meaning implied by the term density is not the same meaning as the one found in mathematics or science. Never fully understanding the ideas you are rallying agansit is just as bad as never fully understanding the ideas you hold onto...

Just remember, life isn't so easily defined...
Peace.

Can you show me a definition of "density" in this special non-standard sense? I'd like to fully understand this type of density if you say there's some truth in those theories. I mean the ones that use the word "density" in this special way.

Here's one, from one of the theories themselves:
"4. Density = density of consciousness - or density of vibration (B4, 28). Frequently used by Ra as an analog to what is currently thought of as “dimensions” in the Universe. The densities are organized into an eight-fold “octave” system, analogous to the musical octave and the visual light spectrum. Therefore the higher the density, the higher the level of consciousness."

What do you find in that, by the way? I want to hear your opinion...
Peace.

To be so sure nothing will happen in 2012 is rather uneducated....you yourself are against the very thing you are claiming - that you know whats going to happen.

Nothing is as it appears to be, and just because many people have tapped into alternative forms of consciousness, have channeled information, have astral projected, or have had visions, prophecies, dreams and whatnot that YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, does not make it incorrect.

What you said could apply to a lot of things, and just because some 12 year old read 2012 is the end of the world and is telling his friends that, doesnt mean the WHOLE significance of the date 2012 is invalid.

Just because Bush is president of the US does not make the USA a completely bad country. Just beacuse some people think the world will end in 2012, doesn't mean the date doesn't hold any significance to humanity.
