Questions from a noob.

So, my first test batch is going quite well which is, in part, thanks to many of you here on the forums. I've learned quite a bit from the knowledge you've shared. So, thank you all very much.
Now, on to the questions. 1: Misting is a pain. Is the use of a humidifier a good idea? Now, I figure heat (too much of it) is a bad thing so the use of a Cold Mist (or sonic) Humidifier is preferable over the heat/steam version. I've found some really nice CMHs that use a bottle of water inserted on top. They are small & fairly low power consuming. Setting up a timer & a fan alternating would be quite easy for me is a fan is necessary when using a humidifier.
2: Most info I've found shows putting the BRF cake upside down onto the perlite. By upside down I mean the part of the cake that faces the lid of the jar is placed down towards the perlite. Is this necessary? Can I sit it upright instead? The problem I'm seeing is that the fruit is growing down into the perlite then curling up & is collecting allot of perlite as it grows. This makes cleaning the fruit before drying more time consuming. If it fruited right side up it would collect no perlite as it fruited but the fruiting area would be farther away from the perlite, the main source of moisture. (Using the CMH stated in question 1 would alleviate this problem though, I believe.)
So, any thoughts or experiences on matters would be greatly appreciated.

In response to your first question:
I prefer to mist manually as I inspect the grow often and enjoy the care that goes into it. It is part of the process and not a pain to me. I can adjust the moisture to each chamber more specifically and I like the personal touch. I have heard good things about CMHs, but I feel they can be way more problematic if not used correctly. I am told that you should be wiping down the humidifier daily with a 10 percent bleach solution to safely keep it clean. Is this less work than just misting correctly?

It dosent matter which way you fruit you will still get fruits from the bottom, a microclimate develops under your cake causing this.
If you fruit bottom side up, you can put more perlite Verm in the concave of the cake for added moisture retention.

I think pins show at the bottom of a cake is because thats where the most moisture is. mist more and elevate your cakes on a bread rack or jar lid and foil.
