1. Stand up in a clay pot, with no soil. 2. Place somewhere bright and warm. 3. Wait.

It is as simple as that, really.

Filling the pot with dry bentonite clay granules (kitty litter), should make it root even quicker, but in any case gives it the weight and support so it doesn't topple over.

I have show pic from rooting tek I have success to got roots to trichocereus without molding and rotting.

I use clay pots cause they are narrow so there will be shady spot below. Roots will grow there. Pot can be fill with rocks if want to, later on some watering spray can stimulate the rooting but I have plant and forget cutting to empty pot and care that calloused surface don't get light. It can take some time but sooner or later cactus put out roots to empty pot.
Smaller cuttings I root to dry soil. Bigger I use empty pots so I can see roots without damaging them when I get cactus out of pot for inspection of rooting.

I've never heard of a variegated TBM before. Are you sure that isn't just some kinda mottling caused by growing conditions? I've seen otherwise non variegated cuttings do that when exposed to too much sun at the wrong time.

This is 100% bonafide variegation. Check out cactus art website for a nice shot of one. Here's another but this one isn't mine. Sorry for the thumbnail size.

I've seen it on CACTUS ART. It apparently was a pup from a 'regular' monstrose bridgesii.
I have also heard of 'fake' variegated cactus by using 'chemicals' to damage the cactus and causes a variegated appearance however it is only temporary and the later growth returns normal. I will not mention the chemical to not start a 'scams' by sales of damaged cacti passed off as variegated. I've seen some sold as variegated but just appear to be nutrient deficient.

Yeah m.s I've seen quite a few nute deficient variegatas pop up on a popular auction site in the not so distant past but I'm unsure if the seller knew they weren't true variegation as I didn't inquire about them. A trained eye should be able to spot something like that upon closer inspection.

I had a question about rooting, as I've been trying to root several cuttings using that "throw in an empty pot" method for a couple of months now, and successfully struck some small roots on some. That said, they're all yellowing (but still firm, and don't seem to be rotten) where the pots shade them. I'm assuming this is normal, and I'll just pot them up deep enough that the discoloration is underground, but I just wanted to make sure they're not all doomed.
Edit: Just scrolled up to read the posts I hadn't read before I posted this. Another ridiculous score, SuperD. I can't wait for update pictures once those cuttings begin to grow!

Yeah the yellowing isn't a problem, just pot it to the top of the yellow line and you're good to go.

3 week old cuttings waiting to be potted. I had to re-callouse them all because the supplier packaged right after chopping, and the healing was next to nil.

Dark pic of my trichs and cylindropuntia? Austro? One is crested I can probably get brighter/clearer shots.

The pic's dark, I know but it's one of the few pics to make it through uploading.
I was just eager to share my small collection.

@SuperD, that's Zelly's varigated TBM, yeah? I missed out on one on eBay that only went for $70 -_- it sucked...
Also, just sowed around 12 different types of Trichs

and saved some seedlings that got fucked up by wind and rain.

Yeah Ken those two thumbs I posted are of his, but I did not obtain those from him. I saw some recent posts of yours at the other forum but for some damn reason I can't seem to get them to show up, still unsure why. It isn't just yours either. I can't view around half the pics I see on that site.
