What are those white spots on the cactus? You sure you have check them in case of mealies?

Enlarge the photo, those are water droplets.

Sorry cannot still see for sure what they are.. I always enlarge the photos when looking them. Probably flashlight has done the trick.:tongue2:

The picture was taken after bath

BUT my other cactii are suffering from mealybugs. They are really suffering. Any idea how to get rid of them?

Squish the ones you can see, then spray the plants with pyrethrine based insecticide to get rid of any stragglers and eggs.

Step 1: put cacti in bag
step 2: blow tobacco smoke into the bag(do not inhale)
step 3: close the bag for 2-5mins
step 4: enjoy pest free cacti

This method works great when you have cacti in dormancy, spraying water soluble insecticide might make cacti prone to rot in dormancy stage.
Smoke is dry and works EXTREMELY fast!

Very nice method mate, i remember you writing somewhere elsewhere.

Though if you have lot of plants you can't do it without a huge effort!

I guess you could put them in a box or something too, treating dozens of cacti at once. :yesnod:
A self rolled up cigarette only uses 2-3drags to fill a large bag too.

I'd be "exterminating pests" from my plants daily if this worked with weed smoke.

I have tried this with plastic bag and mosquito killer round "thing" what is usually used there to get rid of mosquito indoors. It contains many pyrehtrins and it needs to use by using flame, then it starts burning like cigarette and releasing slowly pyrethrines as form of smoke. I have done this to few cacti, my plan is to do this when they are at dormancy and spread big plastic bag around many pots, then fill it up with the smoke full of pyrethrins and kill probably bugs with this tek.

Actually I buy'd mammillaria plants from local nursery, they had mealybugs in them so I put plastic bag over the plants and let pyrethrin smoke fill the bag and then I closed it. After several minutes when taking bag away there still was smoke inside the bag..

I don't know does this works bugs below the soil when using smoke full of pyrethrin or nicotine compounds.. However, mealies stopped moving after I took new mammillarias away from the bag. Need to do this one or two times more cause they has probably lye eggs on the surface of the plants and possible effects to eggs I don't know, but was very effective to mealies and they seems to just drop down from mammillrias. They are usually hard plants to manage or find bugs anyway but would be good to do this more when they are in dormancy and probably cause of porous soil of lophophora and arioarpus, smoke will go below the soil level too and effects the living bugs in the roots..

Lophs and mealies are very hard, trichos is not so hard to fight against them. But considering the facts that lophs and ariocarpus and some mammillaria has rot prone tap root makes things hard to kill mealies and they usually loves to be below the soil sucking tap root of cactus..

Do you know does this smoking works to bugs under the soil? mealybugs are nasty even they are not immune to few pesticides I have but still I hate the cause they are most likely found below the soil instead of above it.. Usually after watering with neem water my tap root plants, I can see possible mealybugs "escape" and they can be find moving up towards loph skin.

Would be nice to hear does this effect to bugs inside the soil or only bugs what are living above the soil?

I found this is good way to use pyrethrins cause aerosol pyrethrins I have very bad experiences what they cause to cactus and their skin.. Probably as bad as neem oil directly used to skin with water. Pyrethrins in the smoke instead are good way and doesn't seem to cause any skin injuries.. I have done this few days ago for few specimens I suspect they have spider mites and havent notice anything bad reaction with sensitive lophophora skin.

I need to find out more about this and do another smoking now when all people from this house are away so they doesn't complain the bad smell pyrethrin smoke leave for day or two.

Good advice! Very handy way to deal with with mites and another bugs when water is not good to use at dormant time of plants! :headbang:

This predominant cultivar x Psycho0 was sown three months ago and grafted to Hylocereus costaricaensis as a little seedling.

Fun :inlove3:

..After year you took it as possible cutting and let trichocereus grown on it's own roots? :dancer:

I have rooted very small cuttings, still let it grow there till 10-15cm long, cut it and leave some tricho to pup out more and make from that a factory cactus producing new cuttings..?

Are there much of difference compared to hylocereus and trichocereus growth rate?

Was cross my mind that later when it's older, would be nice to cut and leave trichocereus attached there and let it pup moar cuttings. Nice work tho

I started growing Trichocereus only three months ago so I can't really compare it's growth rate to Hylocereus. Although, Hylocereus grows extremely fast so it is as good stock as Pereskiopsis. I have noticed that grafting to Hylocereus (unrooted cuttings) is way easier than grafting to Pereskiopsis.

I'll probably let it grow at least 10 cm high until I cut it.

I've been wanting to do this for a couple years. Finally got around to ordering one. I took it out of the package, sanitized a cutting board and knife, made the cut, and set it under a fan. All by the instructions that came with the cactus. Now I guess I wait a few weeks for it to heal

Hokay so,
I have a foot long Bridgesii and I was wondering if I were to cut into say 2-3 inch sections and let them callaus. Could I plant those and get pups?

YES YOU CAN!:cookiemonster:

...no worries, also that size logs can be planted horizontally or vertically.

Still I would only cut foot long cactus to half and start from 6inch cuttings, smaller cutting, slower the growth rate is at first. Just cut foot long cactus to half and make two cuttings, let another pup offshoots and grow another as it is.. If you want 3, took later one 4inch cutting from top section from another cactus and you have 3 macikal plants! :yesnod:
