Wow that’s a great collection SFS96! Looks like you have a whole nursery.

Anyone know what kind of Trich this is? It’s a beauty has some Bridgesii vibes but is thick like peruvianus.

It’s part of a accessible private collection near San Francisco.

I'd say its cuzco but others would say peruvianus. I don't see any bridegsii traits but who knows.

The wavy ribs up, white spines, and deep round notches scream cuzco to me as well.

I think a lot cuzcos look cool, and have a couple. They're just better for decoration than other uses.

With propagation from cuttings if the material used is under 4 inches is it better to bury it slightly on its side or tip out and 3 inches in the soil?

I've been growing for years but recently a j. Giant has fall in ill so I salvaged 4 to 5 inch tip and normally im cutting at least a 1ft and waiting for it to heal before planting .

However I'm wondering now about side planting bc lots of my trichs have fallen over in years and then sprouted from off sides....

Which seems more natural ? As in the natural way it propagated itself in its environment ?

I'm looking for some advice on my cacti. I rooted two trichs last summer. The first one had an issue with thrips that damaged the tip, but the new growth from this year looks good. I'm thinking of cutting off the middle, browned section and rooting the cutting and using the bottom as graft stock for loph seedlings. Is it best to wait until spring to cut and graft? The loph seedlings will be about a year old at that point.

The other trich recently bent over the middle and appears to be damaged with a root like projection coming out from the opposite side of the bend. You can see it above the twist tie in the picture. What is it?

Sure you could . why not ? It's going to pup out of where that cut will be so you may want to make 2 cuts and have another further down to support the weight of the pups imo.
