They are a little hard to see on that picture. The macro on my camera isn't the greatest. Vestigial leaves refer to the green spike growing just below, almost covering, the areola. They might be easier to see after some time has passed, but the pups stop growing them pretty early on.

ahh. I wasn't sure you knew what I was referring to. They are not rare, I don't think they are even that uncommon, it just seems random. 6 pups from 2 plants of the same clone, and only 1 had these.

So I ordered a pack of Peruvian Torch and planted the whole pack.. Well only three came up. I've never grown a cactus before especially from seed.. They're really small and two are kinda yellow..
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

They need more light. Move them an inch closer every few days until they green up. Don't move them too close to begin with as you risk burning them from too much light. If they start going Red it is an indicator they're getting too much.

Yeahp bought the seed from "What i consider to be a VERY reputable supplier, <SNIP> I have no doubts it was the soil; its just earth with a lil soil mixed in, definitely not enough of that though. It is pretty hard... I'm definitely going to transplant them into some actual cactus type mixed soil once they get a little bigger.. How long should i wait??
Thx 4 all the help guys im an idiot

I had great results starting my last batch on top of very fine pumice. Out of a pack of "30" seeds, I had about 50 seedlings. I did it in trays with humidity domes on top over a seed starting heat mat.
Other people have other preferences, but if you're gonna be doing more seed starting, you need to do some research into proper seed starting soils.

Mine looks like a pale version of those. I suppose it's just a really high-up root then. I'll take pics soon.

its really pretty easy to get good results , i either sift a cactus or potting mix or lately i have been using a fine bagged topsoil with great results .

Well I still gotta let up callous and root before I pot them. They were just cut before my eyes two days ago. I'll get a pic up with better lighting soon though.
