hmmm id always just keep em tilted slightly in my windowsill, no soil no water nothing and you can pick them up and check em for root development.. Once they start showing a few roots u put em in the ground and they can be watered fine. Takes a few months tho for the thing to show roots how long does putting it over a wet substrate take?

Just completed my first two attempts at grafting Trichos to Pereskiopsis. Two of my Trich pac "Huachuma de Chavin" seedlings. Kinda crappy scissors I used, so hopefully they'll take OK. Did the saran wrap with clothespin method.

I hope the scissors were very sharp otherwise you may risk not making a clean enough cut. Let us know how they turn out!

not as sharp as I would have liked, but they seem to be in pretty good firm contact with a little pressure on the saran wrap. I've got about 100 more seedlings to mess with though if these don't take. It was a trial run.

Scissors are no good, if they are not sharp enough you risk crushing your cacti. It's better to use a razorblade, a scalpel or even a knife.

I might try that next time. I wasn't really prepared, but I had some seedlings that had gotten unrooted and figured I'd give it a go. I believe I've read of a fair number of people using scissors though with good success rates. I think they just have to be sharp.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but could someone point me to a picture of a pup JUST starting to emerge off of another cactus? I thought I was getting a pup growing off of one but realizing it's only 4 inches right now I'm kind of thinking that's not likely.

Good enough for me. I figured there wasn't much else it could be but it just looks so silly at the moment. I almost thought I had some rare cactus parasite or something for a minute haha

Its time to cleanly cut that baby and put into a pot once the wound heals.

That is the plan. It has 3 pups, and all have roots, but I was going to let them get a few inches bigger before I start cutting.
