Ive heard that a healthy dose of coconut water (not milk) is pretty effective at getting trichos to pup, never tried it myself though so I cant talk with any first hand experience.

I used a rooting hormone a few times but tbh noticed no noticeable difference *shrug*
Tho who knows if what I used was made for cacti

How did you apply it? Did you dip your fresh cutting in rooting powder and let it callus over?

The one I used was a liquid, and I just used a cotton bud to dab it on. I only did it as my girlfriend requested. The bottle had the label missing.
It was a red liquid? Haha sorry I can't be more help

Probably was Clonex gel, Gallus. It contains IBA.
FWIW I'd warn against using Clonex on small cuttings (< 20-30cm), it tends to suck a lot of moisture out of the plant and make it wrinkly, here's an example:

I did however use it on larger cuts with no problem, but not sure it did much difference in rooting speed appart from drying/callousing faster. It also acts as a fungicide which is nice.

It's best to get cuts from people who know how to grow them. Any cut I've bought from a reputable distributor or in trades has thrown roots quick once planted.

I dont think it´s needed to apply any rooting hormones on Trichocereus.
They produce roots without any problems as soon they are ready to do so.

If you are going to use a rooting hormone, either powder or the gel/liquid type, do NOT do as in the video.
You put a amount of rooting hormone in a container and use this to apply it or dip the cuttings.
The hormone that is left should bu used up or discarded.
To dip the cuttings in the whole jar/bottle like that will ruin the whole bottle.

Also, to use too much rooting hormone gives a negative effect and will make it harder to get roots.
Absolutely best is to buy pure IBA hormone and make a solution that you dip the cuttings in or a weaker solution that you let the cuttings stand in for a few hours.
This require that you can mix the solution to the rekomended strengths.
Rekomended strenghts is different for different plants but can usually be found on the net.

I would skip the rooting hormones for trichocereus, it will throw roots anyway when they are ready for it.

Coconut water for pups diluted to 25% or straight from the nut (my preference!).

Dry, sandy ground has never failed me for rooting calloused cuts and i dont think it matters whether the plant got cut with a samurai sword or ripped off by a rope tied to the back of your truck.

Maybe I just put them in the right place at the right time, (early spring time) but nearly all of my recent purchases and gifts started rooting at the same time! I'll be planting them tomorrow!

And also, I made a diluted solution of neem oil and I was wondering if I should spray my plants now, at 10:00pm or a couple of hours before sunrise?? I hear neem oil will burn plants if improperly administered and I burned them already with 91% alcohol just 2 days ago with no effect.

Oh. btw pics for Larco #1 and Arizona Scop didn't work.

Thanks El Torcho, Mateo, and nolongrlurkin. I'll pass on rooting hormone, and let roots happen naturally.

nolongrlurkin, thanks for your opinion on clean cut vs not so clean cut. I was feeling slightly disappointed about zero opinions on that matter but you came through.

Sorry. Fixed it now. Damn fat fingerss of mine

That Icaros is a real beauty! The only thing that would make it look nicer is a white can in front of it with the word LITE on top.  Miller Time! LOL just kidding... kind of.

Personally, I've found that thrips can be controlled or eradicated by simply bottom watering your plants for a few weeks at least. The thrips eggs are laid in the top layer of soil.

However long the eggs take to hatch..., bottom water at least that long...

It can be hard not to give those roots up top a little splash of water... don't do it tho, your plants will be fine. Even if some leafier plants suffer somewhat who cares. It's worth it to get the thrips under control is what I mean..

Best of luck

Imo id spray been at sunset if my plants were outside. Seems safest that way just a guess tho. Bear in mind that the real problem (the eggs) lies in the top layer of soil.

I've eradicated fungus knats completely by transplanting into new soil and drying the plants out. Waited to water all plants in like one would do normally w cacti (Was dealing w leafy plants). Waited as long as possible. To be fair, they also took on a severe temp drop during the entire process lol. But if there is a next time I wouldn't drop the temps on em unless I had to

Hope that helps some

Spinosad works wonders on thrips.

I use insencticidal soap and/or neem oil. With neem, treat early morning or late afternoon. I prefer evening treatment. I once burnt thw shit out of my citrus when i sprayed thwm during the day.
