What caused it? It's a pity but it's an opportunity to propagate.. Wish we could trade but cactus are harder to get through customs than drugs.

Here’s all the cacti I managed to squeeze into my tent. It’s cold and wet outside now that winter is coming but I didn’t want to see them go dormant yet

I'm not sure of its age. Perhaps 20 years old. I will have to ask next time I'm there. It's a beauty, that's for sure. :sun:

Loving those pics of the giant scop

@ ferrel, sorry about the tower man :\
if you didn't already have so many nice plants, what would be a great way to give it a new life according to you? just root the whole thing or make smaller cuttings to root? I guess I am asking what is an optimal segment length for that? like  ~ a foot?

My grafts seem to have taken :> and my TBM is really working on an 'abscess' quickly hehe - a pup wil be pooped out soon i think.

I do have some signs of etiolation in general but also sunburn from the HID. Might have to start trying my COB instead. I guess the HID is either too hot or too UV intense and no distance seems to be perfect for trichs. But loph caesps do fine... weird

I cut 2 pieces. One is about 2 ft and the other about a foot. And a foot is a good starting, point for any cutting.

Quite normal. Trichocereus don't often root in weeks, more like months. If you're coming into the cooler seasons then it may not produce roots until just before Spring. Two months is when I kind of check for roots.

Should I keep the soil bone dry, or water it just a little? I have tested this cacti and it is a good one.

I tend to keep the soil dry but if it gets wet, it shouldn't harm anything.

Totally agree. Ive had cuttings go all winter, sometimes with wet feet, with no roots and still be ok. So long as its got a good callous.

I picked up a couple of TBM today.  They were labeled as Type A.  Does that look correct?

A Trichocereus Pachanoi cutting I recently acquired from a friend. He ordered a batch for consumption and found that one had already started to get root buds, and so gave it to me. Hoping she takes solid root and enjoys the greenhouse this winter.

I have all 3 cuttings in one pot. Can I move them to separate pots after they root without killing them?

Shouldn't be an issue. Once rooted you can dump the contents out and then scratch away at the soil to expose the roots and separate them. A few broken roots won't kill the plant. Pot them up and don't water for a week or two, to let any broken roots heal.

Yes. Good callus tissue is important. Just drying the fresh cut isn't ideal. Callus tissue takes a few weeks to form.
