My trichs have seen snaps of -17C, and sustained -13C but that is unusual for here. They overwinter in unheated greenhouses, and cope best with cold temps when slightly dehydrated. One is too large for in the house or a greenhouse so it just gets wrapped in plastic or bubble wrap and left outside, and some terscheckii just sit out with opuntia all year round.

Wow that's impressive actually, these dam plants NEVER cease to amaze me. Maybe I'll try overwintering outside then...? I'm positive I can build a small structure for the balcony that will never let the inside temp drop below -5C.

^ I wanted to share this picture because it's a testament to how hard these cactus are to kill. They will continually defy the odds in my experience. These Trichs were looking really bad a few months ago and I decided to cull them out of the crop and discard because they looked so weak I didn't think they would make it. I just tossed them in a pot with no soil and put em on the bottom shelf of a coffee table, well that coffee table collected more shit before I threw out the cactus and eventually I forgot about them. Until last night when I was cleaning said table and found them still alive! No word of a lie these resilient little fuckers sat out of any soil in a plastic pot behind a bunch of junk in the darkest corner of the lower shelf of a coffee table for 4 months give or take without receiving ANY water and very very little lite. Yet they look like at very least some if not all would come back no problem if planted, which is of course what I'm going to do with them now.

What's the minimum energy output they need to stay happy and not etiolate? Do they have a spectrum preference? I guess full spectrum is basically always best eh
Why not put them in a greenhouse, heat it with paraffin, give them God´s good sun all year round. Like I did when I grew in Scotland. Now my climate is frost-free, total bliss.

Jumbo peres ? i remember seeing some ad on ebay with that title, he said it was 10x better for grafted growth while not providing any proofs

I have some of this fatass pere from germany, it really is big. I wouldn't say it's 10 times better than regular pere but it does give good growth and it's much easier to position seedlings onto it, pretty much 100% success with it. I would guess the stock can be kept for much longer too, it's very stable.

Well, truly 10x faster its just impossible, albeit 30% faster most likely could be possible, but probably would horribly bloat globular scions, also i notice from that pic that it can bend a lot without snapping, even near the base, i once broke one mine (pereskiopsis spathulata) when i was testing its elasticity and it broke, the first 10cm.
Most likely its a pereskiopsis gatesii, i have a cutting from an opuntia that does have a stem and then falling not so big pads, some of them with "chains of fruit"

These awesome aussie hybrid seedlings were dropped-off at my place yesterday by a good brother from SAB. Talk about a great care package, handcrafted metal labels and everything
Pachanoi "Oscar" x Bridgesii "Helen" mutant (seed from Zelly)
From front to back left to right:
- Lumberjack x Psycho0
- Juul's Giant x SS02/SS01
- Psycho0 x Sharxx Blue
- Helen x SS02/SS01
- Helen x Psycho0
All from Misplant seeds except Lumberjack x Psycho0 which is from Nitrogen.
And lastly, 5 seedlings from Misplant's Mystery Mix 2016
They are all straight from the huge tricho farm he's starting down in Spain. Straight farm to nugs brotendo!

The viability of your seed is the deciding factor, tho. Do you have a way to bottom water them? Thats the only way to take off for me.
Thanks so much for this advice! I bottom watered them all last week. As of today I'm the happy parent of three brand new bridgesii and a pach! Hopefully the peruvianus come along soon too. 5 for you

Didn't take any pictures today but I grafted a lot of Australian seedlings. I'm doing 1 seedling from each trich variety I have. Alot of seedlings to go...I dunno how many ill count one day but I have about 10,000 seeds/seedlings of all kinds. Also potted alot of trichs, astros, peres, herbs/spices. Woke up early to go shovel cow poo for composting. I'll take some pictures tomorrow of my plant/cacti I'll be gardening again. Tomorrow night I'll make more stainless steel labels.
I collect scrap pipe insulation strapping from work, cut to size, run it through a rolLing mill to make it nice and flat, then engrave. Endless supply. We literally have miles and miles and miles of piping at work so guys are always insulating and leaving this 'trash' on the ground. I happily collect all I can. Maybe I'll do a give away after I finish prepping for 'winter' and big fishing tournament coming up. I don't have the best writing with the engraver and punching the letters/numbers takes alot longer but these labels should last for a long time. The strapping on some pipes has been in the weather for 25years and it's just a little tarnished from the atmosphere of a chemical plant (plastic purgatory).
Hope everyone's plants are healthy and growing! I love looking at the pictures you guys(and gals?) post up.
I was thinking about getting some jumbo peres to play with. Put them in the ground with a scion on top and see what happens.
Mean green those are some great looking seedlings you aquired! Very nice. He knows what's up with the metal tags.

My girl friend took a picture today. These are the cuttings and seedlings that I've moved to the property. I'm going replace the white tent with a permanent structure soon and have it big enough for all my plants that are in pots.

I'll post pictures of some. For my seedlings in shoe box sized tubber ware boxes I make them about 3" and use a numbering system. But on the cuttings I've bought or traded for I make them a little longer usually so I can stick it in the dirt and not lose it.

After getting back from industrial fire fighting training this week I had some mail. It was labeled 'penis plant' looked like a long form TBM to me so I bought it. What do yall think? The two TBM short forms I have terminate pups very quickly this penis is way longer than those. It's a true show'r and hopefully a grower The scissors were the closest object for size reference.

The listings say quiabentia now. He told me it wasnt a pere, per say, but they look very similar besides the growth difference. Ill see if he can toss mw some pics of grafts hes done with it.
