I found my solution for my pachanoi being to tall to bring inside for the winter

Mother and cutting are both drying out in front of a fan for the next day or so, and mom is much more easily moveable now
While I'm here, I'm under the impression that this guy is a PC. Can I get a confirmation on that from the experts in here?

What do you do when you graft two cacti together both with names? Hyphenate?

I'm not worried about it. It's already been bio-assayed. I was more just interested in confirming the ID. Thanks for your help!

Talk about being too tall
This was the last of my 3 year old seed grown bridgesii that hasn't needed to be chopped for one reason or another. I wanted to let it get as tall as possible with out having to cut it. I guess nature had its limit at 30 inches

I'm sorry to hear that bud. I felt the same way when my other pach got knocked over a week or so ago.
It's all a matter of perspective though. I see the opportunity for a tip cutting and two log cuttings. You could expand your collection, bio-assay, or make a few bucks on eBay.

I've thought about doing all of the above! I wonder what folks would pay for an unknown bridgesii clone of this size

Though I still want tallness! So I'm thinking leave it as is, and let it root and grow to be the tall boy it deserves to be.
The stump will be good for at least a couple pups I'm sure

I understand the desire for height. Letting the pach my cutting came from get to about 3' was part of that desire. One day when I live somewhere that I can plant them in the ground I'm going to grow some real monsters

Yup! Let them get really established and put out some flowers and seeds. Then cut if you desire. Big cuttings throw out bigger pups faster. I only cut now if I'm gifting them to someone or if they need it due to a random rot attack.

I was going to let mom and cutting sit in front of a fan until Saturday. Do you all think she'll be fine to go back out into her usual sunny spot outside after that, or should she stay inside longer? I plan to let the cutting callous on a windowsill with bright indirect light for at least a week before repotting.

I don't even think that applies in this case. I'm still not sure if I will ever get to see a flower on any of my trichs where I live. I hear no flowers for Florida grown trichs... I SAY... we shall see about that
3 years in the hobby, not a flower!
Though, 99% of my collection is all seed grown from then. Who knows. Not even scientist can be sure

That seems to be a seed grown thing. Several of mine cant even be left alone. And they tip over. My recomendation is to tranpslant deeper.

Yeah potting deeper can help a lot, also using a stake or two and twist tying them to the cacti can really help. Especially useful for big/ heavy grafts.
I have a bridgesii getting pretty tall I am really tempted to cut as it's getting wobbly

Yeah, seed grown have that tapered base.
I guess all isn't loss. I'll replant the cutting as is to grow again, and the stump shall give me pups. Win win. It's currently the longest cutting I've ever taken.
I like to stare at it
