During my annual mothers day update most of my cacti were so desiccated they looked like they were going to die because of a 5 month drought and tap water wasn't enough to plump them back up. A few did die but once the rains came and the ground was wet for a solid week the finally started to plump up again. Here are the cacti I wanted to show of on mothers day not those sickly malnourished versions of themselves.

I don't remember the name of the one on the left, when they get to be that size, 80% of the column will have those white thorns spaced fairly far apart, then the top will have these long grey thorns thick as hair. One of my customers had it topple over in theiryard a couple years ago, they had me cut off all the nice looking tips and replant them, then haul the rest away. I kept the roots, planted them and they did nothing for over a year, now it's coming back.

thank you for the kind words, its mostly pachanois and cuzcos, there are some peruvianus mixed in but no brigesii's. I had meant to buy some cuttings this spring from the mallact but forgot, will have to wait until next spring.

I'd let it go a few more weeks, personally. Also, those dark spots are questionable.
I'd probably re-cut and allow to callous again. You don't need to make the little slant cuts if you're just gonna put it in the ground.

Questionable yes. Another cut? I wouldnt. Seems it happens but as long as its getting dry air and not in a humid environment, there,s little to worry about. Mind ypu, thats just me. An unconventional answer from an unconventional grower.

Family - I left these big so you can look close.

Huancabamba - Cutting I planted this spring. Amazed by how fat and fast the growth is. Hoping she's a powerful one!

Ogun - Sliced the tip off about 2 weeks ago. Starting to get a pup. Should have about 2.5-3 more months of growing time, so I'm expecting a nice healthy pup to cut off and root next spring!

SS02 - My SS02 cut decided to give me a 4 rib pup. I'm not sure I believe the hype about '4 winds' but I know you fuckers on here like it.

I think they're worth it. It has been pretty rainy here lately. Not even worried about any root rot.... I do everything a little unconventional as well. I use peat and a lot of compost. I don't use much perlite. I keep them fairly wet and well fed.
Smart pots are the shiite.

What I've moved out to the property so far. Still cutting hackberry trees down. After that I'll amend the soil then start putting them in the ground and bring the others down.

The only hackberry tree I don't want to cut down is the 90 degree angle one in the back ground. But it looks like it's on its way out as the black death is on one side of the stump at ground level. I thought it would be a good place for a swing until I started to see the black death and healthy looking trees topple over from it rotting them from the inside out and roots. I'll see if I doctor it and save it but I doubt it. I bet toe heartwood is on its way out. Ferrel it looks like I'll have to cut another pecan tree and 2 oaks pretty decent size. I think they will be too close to the slab and end up destroying it with roots over time. I'll let ya know buddy.
