Roots will form because of high humidity so a little bit of moisture is a good thing.
Don't water them properly like an established plant just enough to keep some moisture in the soil.
Just make sure they are well calloused and they should be fine.

I've gotten great yields from PC so I take every set of numbers with a grain of salt. But good to know it's active. Thanks for the response man!! Oh yeahhh more cacti in the mail(not js350..already have that) some new interesting looking cuttings that don't have a name attached to them besides San pedro. think I'll be up to about 60 different trich cuttings. I really need to take some pics and contribute to this fine thread.

So just dampen the top layer with water let dry and repeat?

I did a torture test with a peruvianus. Left two hearty cuttings laying on concrete in part sun for 2 full years then potted them and they rooted and grew. They looked pretty bad but goes to show how adapted cacti are to a low water environment. To much water is a killer. If I have a well scabbed cutting as in a couple months sitting out I don't mind a few ml's of water once a week to promote rooting. When I say ml's I'm referring to a heavy dew forming on them where I live it's very humid and typically do not have to put any water on my cactus until they are well rooted and sunken in a bit. The worm casing I use has moisture in it so that provides all the moisture they need. Cacti will root with 0 watering. Better to play it safe with no water and once you see how the root growth progresses maybe toy with a few drops of water but they must be very well scabbed over. Less is more my friend.

Less is certainly not more.
These plants are adapted for survival but there is no reason to put them through unnecessary stress.
These are not desert plants. There is no reason to deprive them of water.
Sure they will survive but growth rate will severely decline. I just see no point to starving them unless the temps are getting dangerously low.
I'm not talking about soaking them everyday but a fine mist on the surface every few days isn't going to do anything detrimental.

I never intended to undermind your advice. I was actually supporting it yet giving him a bit of info on how they can take extremes of no water in hopes that anyone reading this does not soak their cactus that have no roots. Mine drink quite often as its rains a lot where I live on the coast but not until they have a solid fountation of roots. You might spray a fine mist and I let mother natures fog and dew mist mine. Good day sir!

Trichocereus cacti are 93%-95% water depending who's research you read that a lot of water they can make roots with. I love it when they start rooting before I put them in the soil.

I potted this OTB around november(9 or 10 months ago). Was 14" now it's about 32" with a 6" pup! It elongated a little from November to February but fattened up some and took off strong.

They root when not in the soil because of excess, humidity. Plants growing against walls will tend to,do the same, thing. Its nothing to do with water content of the cut.
I think denying them water will only increase rooting times and add extra unwanted stress. .

When I take cuttings I put them in a paper bag and a month or two later they have a bunch of roots. Then I plant them and water them with small amounts until they seem to take hold.
