Damn, some of you guys have AMAZING collections! Im too ashamed to even show what I have left from 7 years of trying to grow these suckers How the heck do you guys find SP and other good cacti at stores like Home Depot??? I go to 3-4 separate stores that have a gardening section with cacti... Home depot, Lowes, Wal Mart and even the local garden center. There have been times when I went to the stores EVERY day and not once have I seen a single active cactus!!! It's not like people are buying them up, they just never get them! I live on the east coast so maybe its just my area

Agree with Acaterpillar and the online ordering, it really has made things so much easier. It is nice to occasionally check the big box stores in hopes of finding nice cacti but I feel like it is very seasonal and they go pretty quickly so it can be a rare find.

You can grow your trichs in the ground in England?

Inside the (unheated) greenhouse yes, basically giving them a free root run.
There is an 8 foot tall terscheckii in the ground outside in England, some pics are on the BCSS forum. A few species in other genus can survive with good placement and preparation too.

Wow very beautiful trichos you got!!! I can see lot of organic material in your soil mixes, did trichos love more organic than lophophoras?Or is just your climate and, or personal taste?
I dont own trichos yet so i would love to learn first till got someone here.

This is cool, even if it isn't full-fledged monstrose growth all over. I have a loph with a similar trait. For whatever reason it got stuck when it was emerging as a pup and now there's a whole rib pattern missing on one side. It's cool but it would be even better if the entire button looked the same way.
I'd love to see an update on that pic in the future if it continues doing weird things.
