Also I’m thrilled to have noticed my first trich seeds germinated! Either Bonny x Clyde or Clyde x Bonny, but either way T. peruvianus. I got a small packet of them as a freebie with an eBay buy and they were labeled Bonny x Clyde 0164, but the product number corresponds to both permutations in misplant’s current catalog.

They took much longer to start germinating than some much fresher “living rocks” I recently ordered from there.

Since then, I sowed my other trich seeds, Yowie x TPQC.

I’ve finally had two successful loph grafts, one on pere and one on myrt. So two days ago I tried trich grafts. Two slab grafts from an SS02 x Eileen seedling, one on myrt and the other on sun goddess. I also have two loph micrografts on pere that I’m very optimistic about. They’re a little over a week old and not shriveling up. They’ve started getting a couple hours a day under grow lights outside of a humid container. If they still look good a week from now I’ll start more with my other seedlings. Hope to have something to show for all this soon 🙂

These old clone collars work great for keeping these pups from stabbing each other.

That’s a cool idea…what are they exactly?

Neoprene collars for cloning machines/buckets. I had some old ones sitting around the growroom and decided to repurpose them while all the cactus were in the tent last winter.

I started a bunch of Trich seeds on 4/26. This is my first attempt. Here's some progress pics.

Bridgesii

They turned a bit pink, I'm guessing too much light, but they're really not getting much. I suppose they don't need very much at this stage.

Got these from Lt. Lurker (thanks, dude!) 5 years ago and just got around to planting them.

enough to harvest? [Re: TempestDnB]
    #28425676 - 08/08/23 12:04 PM (5 months, 18 days ago)

I have been keeping these alive for years, but I obviously don't have the resources to keep them thriving, given my geographical location (NE Canada). I was wondering if there is enough here to harvest?

Oh wow, nice! I've noticed my cactus don't need as much space as I think(pot/soil size), or as most plants usually do, I find myself always in shock when I realize things like san pedro and bridge roots don't go as deep as I would have thought. The same goes for a 50 year old Christmas Cactus that I repotted recently, was shocked how small the rootball was.

Mine seem to fill the entire pots with roots. Root bound very quickly

That's very interesting! Maybe I am doing something wrong? Let me ask everyone this: Is it possible to take so many( too many) cuttings, from cuttings, from cuttings that the plants slowly lose the ability to grow large ? I've noticed that a lot of my cactus are smaller and won't really grow thick. Could it be like mushrooms where someone tries to push the mycelium to many times and it just peters out?

If that was true, pc would be screwed. A lot of other clones too really. My trichs fill pots with roots quicker than I want them to usually.

What does your soil/pot situation look like?

Man I’m just getting started and don’t know where to start but from what I’ve gathered the right conditions seem to help them grow nice and thick.

You need years of optimal conditions to get them to grow thick like trees.

Also started some seeds and getting another cut soon and some more seeds to start I’m already super stoked to get started.

Yeah I couldn’t resist now to make sure I don’t murder it. I have it in a West facing window that gets direct sun light from around 12pm-7pm. I’m hoping that will be enough for now till it establishes itself.

That's pretty much exactly what I did when I first started out. Would bring them outside later in the afternoon sometimes too for a bit, then back in at night.

The runt of an SS02/Yowie seed batch. I potted it up and it's growing more. Curious to see how this one turns out.

Yeah you guys got super nice collections hoping one day I will to. I snagged that little cacti for 30 and it’s pupping so I thought why not you only live once. I ordered some show quality Peru x mallacht’s cut seeds and have some bridgesii seedlings about 1 1/2wks old just started and can’t wait I can definitely see this becoming an addiction.
