In the third pic, the 2 columns farthest to the right, are those actives with 4 ribs? If so, I really dig those! My scopulicola's are all 4-ribbed specimens, and I kinda hope they keep that way. I really love that they barely have any spines. You really can't hurt yourself handling a true scopulicola, so it's real nice to have that variety especially with kids running around. Not that they've ever touched my cacti but still, it's a good safety measure to me.

Progress with the newest high tunnel and some residents waiting to move in. Now I need to raise the money for the plastic but I may get a small loan from family to speed it along. Bought some cull-pile boards for $10, (6) 1x6-8 or -10, not sure. Somewhat crooked boards but they will be adequate as a strip to anchor the side plastic.

It allows for more headspace.

It's done a lot. It could also be his greenhouse was part of a series, with 1 side being the end and the other having had another greenhouse added to it, with a rain gutter in between.

I've done a lot of greenhouses in a past life.

So. would a greenhouse kit be a good choice if one could afford it? Which ones would be best? I plan on setting one up in our new place. There's a perfect spot for it. It will be on solid cement too.

@turtle_hermit

There are versions of high-tunnels that come with straight walls, it allows for a more efficient greenhouse rather than losing some of that space because of the curvature. Helps prevent baking plants by keeping plastic further away from them.

One side is higher because the grade slopes; it's roughly 4' down for every 30' across but gets steeper into the forest.

@tyrannicalrex

Depends on how much space you have. High tunnel kits are usually start around $1,400 and are excellent if it doesn't get too cold but you can always add a wood burning heater.

+++

Unfortunately this greenhouse probably won't be finished until next year. There are still around $1,000 in expenses just for the bare minimum structure; nevermind the shade-cloth, rope, tables, etc. These are second, or even third hand tunnels and were torn down in a hurry by the previous owner so I'm having to replace a few of parts.

Land set to production begets more land, money set to work begets more money; and if I play my cards right I might retirement completely before 40. Too bad School, government, family, etc, didn't teach much in the way of practical or useful knowledge else this and more would have been built fifteen years ago.

It looks like maybe an 8x10 or 12 will fit It won't be until next year before spring anyway. I might catch a winter sale or something.

Gotcha. My hoophouse is only a two pole hoophouse 12' wide and about 8' tall. The hoops connect down at the ground posts, but there is enough workable space on the sides.

From about two months back, most recent pic I have on site.
