Not a Tricho but my test plant for them. Blue Candle cactus survived single digits with mulch, frost blanket, and two layers of plastic. I suppose planting them is a go, although I may err and keep the property lines clear so they don't end up having to be cut down in the future.
Update on that oddball Scop x Bridgesii OP, still seems to be a monstrose.

Haven't over watered them and the soil does drain well they had a day of rain though. At first I thought some baby slugs had a go at them but that doesn't look like slug grazing marks, more are getting affected as well since I shifted them to an elevated spot where not critters are around.

OK, I had a look around for what to do about this but getting a bit confused on where these bugs are actually located, are they sucking on the root?
What would be best to do about this?
Thanks.

It could be thrips damage.
They come out at night usually and puncture and then suck out the contents of the plant.

While I bet it's annoying you're kind of lucky it didn't take out the scion.
Looks to have escaped any damage. The root stock should heal. Looks to be doing well.

Honestly don't care about the root. Rootstock was $15 but the graft if a power house trich that was doing amazing for being "dormant" and my bird just had to chew it up for no reason but for the fuck of it. Didn't even eat it, a toy to him. I couldnt give two shits about the root stock, I'm pissed he destroyed the opportunity of that graft which I saved from a dieing plant from being a great big cactus I could repot at the end of this summer. Fucking parrots!

They sure are. I'm about 4-5 years late with that variant but there's still room for gene improvements.
One must be patient with this hobby. Buy more seeds and keep grafting away for coming grow season. You'll have too much to deal with in no time.

Yeah. I know the feel. The relief I felt when I finally got my friends...
Yeah, that graft took a big hit. It will grow fine but it hurts to look at it. Maybe regraft to another clean and fatty stock?

Appreciate the info, last night after lights out I did a spray down to control insects, especially thrips who cause havoc with my grafts, getting their dirty little feet in my graft cut.
I noticed a tiny little black bug, bigger than a trip, kind of round beetle like, but tiny. Moved fairly fast, not as fast as thrips, but likes to hang out around graft cut in the humidity dome.
I've been using pyretherines for almost all my insect control. I feel like I should swap out for a season, unless resistanceisn't an issue. Anyone have recommendation for spray that is save around baby trich, ario, loph, peres? It could be thrips damage.

Lol it sadly wasn't some random outdoor bird. I'm not too worried about the graft, it will be fine but just that cactus now rapes my eyes when seeing it.
