Trichocereus Growers Unite! * 15
    #18005647 - 03/24/13 07:54 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

well we have had much success with the Lophophora Growers Unite that I thought I should give the next best genus in the cacti family a thread of its own.

it all started with my search for enlightenment. it started with peyote. I knew it would grow but I never knew to what extent.

hundreds of dollars later and my collection grows.

so go ahead people post up. I cant be the only columnar lover here.

This is gonna be where Trichocereus Growers Unite!

Those are my icaro torches. They are the most beautiful blue sight to behold.

The fat one is very similar to the one on Julio's website that has a cap and sunglasses. Very blue and very large.

Here is a pic before the stump rotted.

That piece is fully rooted with a log that is in ground. They are truly remarkable specimens.

No it's not common! Pest oil sprays will scar a cacti to death also water damage can do that and scale bugs.

I dont spray them. And I rarely water them. Maybe once, twice a year.

This one and my monstrose have those scars. I'm baffled. But they grow so I just let them be.

What causes trichocereus to flower? Temperature? light cycle? Size? Age? I have a few nice sized trichs and I am wondering if I will see some flowers soon.

They flower during Spring/Summer and the plant needs to be mature. That is, at least a few years growth from cutting or a plant of several years of age, and has been grown in ample light. Some people in low light areas report that they cannot get them to flower. Other factors may be an issue but mine flower after being grown for a few years.

I still have yet to see any Trich flowers in person. I have a few Peruvian Icaros I would like to cross. they seem like the seedlings would be exquisite.

Not likely. Maybe peruvianus. They have a habit of mislabeling sometimes. And gluing those gay ass flowers to them. :shakefist:

Since I'm already here amongst people with way more experience, this seems to be an adequate time to ask a quick question..

I got a hydroponics kit a while ago that has rooting gel in it. If I put some of that on the bottom of a small cutting will that increase its chances of rooting sooner/successfully?

They do fine by themselves ajd from what I have read it does seem to speed it up.
