Those fake flowers..very infuriating to see one glued on top of an otherwise healthy specimen.  I'd love to glue some ridiculous looking hats on the head of the person that came up with the idea.

I hope the scissors were very sharp otherwise you may risk not making a clean enough cut.  Let us know how they turn out!

It's my understanding that grafts will take more quickly and vigorously during the active growth season. That may account for why it just chilled for a while till now.

Yeah, pereskiopsis are tropical so they grow year round without a dormant period like other cacti do, but they can definitely slow or stall their growth during cold months like we had here last last year and early this year.

I'm heading to the big box stores as soon as they open today.  Doubt I'll find any monstrose pachs but the hunt continues. They're easily available online but it's kind of like finding your own mushrooms.  It just makes it that much sweeter when you stumble across one yourself. :datass:

TBM crest freshly acquired. :aweoverdose:  As much as I'd like to keep this specimen whole, I can see so many grafting opportunities I will have no choice but to chop it up soon.  I'll take 6-7 smaller TBM crest grafts over one large prized specimen. In a few years they'll all be back to the same size anyway, so that's a no brainer to me.  I can't share genetics from my collection without chopping up beauties like this.

Random variegateds that I'm waiting to root so I can propagate further.

A lot of the time when a TBM puts out a pup it will look like regular bridgesii growth until it matures a little more.

This has a very symmetrical look to it, including the spines.  I've been waiting on it to root and yesterday I saw some beginning to emerge.

This is cool, even if it isn't full-fledged monstrose growth all over.  I have a loph with a similar trait.  For whatever reason it got stuck when it was emerging as a pup and now there's a whole rib pattern missing on one side.  It's cool but it would be even better if the entire button looked the same way.

I'd love to see an update on that pic in the future if it continues doing weird things.

Slow growth is always better than no growth at least  I want to check out your peruvianoids when you get around to posting them.

I finally took my TBM crest to my "chop shop" a few weeks ago and it looks like everything has healed up nicely so far.  There is also still plenty of meat left on the bone so I'll be chopping up the rest of the right side once my pedro graft stocks grow just a little taller.

I couldn't wait either, that's why I started grafting!  If you want to get some practice in, go find some cheap stock from a big box store or nursery and start that way.  I certainly wouldn't want to jump right in to cutting up something precious without having a few practice rounds on expendable stock first.
