Well Washington is fucked on their taxes. California has cheaper booze than Oregon, hell there is a liquor store in some tiny ass podunk town (Hilt, Ca) 1 mile over the border that people drive 30 miles to buy booze at.
Oh yeah, something from last september 2012
Quote:
SALEM -- A lobbyist for Northwest grocers touched off what could be the next round of liquor wars in Oregon on Thursday, telling state lawmakers that if they don't liberalize alcohol laws the next step will be an initiative to privatize the entire system.
Fuck state run stores.

I wish they would do that here, but I'm not holding my breath. Alcohol is ridiculously expensive here as well, I just don't bother drinking at all.

By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) – In a historic vote, the state House last night passed a bill that would privatize wine and liquor sales and phase out Pennsylvania’s state store system. The bill, however, faces almost certain changes in the Senate.
It is the first time a liquor privatization bill has passed either chamber of the legislature. Opponents of the measure, mostly Democrats, predicted doom and gloom if the bill becomes law.
House Democratic Whip Michael Hanna said, “Arguing that input was heard from numerous stakeholders is no justification for a ‘yes’ vote for this disastrous proposal.”
But Delaware County Republican Bill Adolph said Democrats were predicting dire consequences from greater alcohol availability while at the same time advocating consumer-friendly changes as an alternative to the bill, “And you can’t have it both ways.”
Attention now turns to the Senate, where the majority leader, Chester Republican Dominic Pileggi, is signaling that the Senate is almost certain not to pass the House bill as is and is likely to make modernizing liquor sales a priority, as opposed to selling off state stores.
“Our focus – as I believe the majority of Pennsylvanians believe – is that we should be looking for ways to increase convenience, and selection at a competitive price.”
But in response to a question about the status of state stores, Pileggi said he’s not caught up in the “ideological” side of the legislative effort. Pileggi says he doesn’t believe anyone expects the Senate to simply send the liquor bill to the governor as is… and indicated the issue will not be on a fast track in the chamber.
After the House vote last night, Governor Corbett wasn’t tipping his hand as to how far he might be willing to go in compromising with the Senate.
“You want me to negotiate against myself in the public? Well, that’s what you’re asking.”
Corbett says simply he will try to convince the Senate that it’s time to get the state out of the business of selling alcohol.
FINALLY getting rid of this state store bullshit. This should come as great news to my fellow PA drinkers. How many others have fallen victim to a state store closing at a ridiculously early time and ruining a weekend?
The PLCB is not going to relinquish their state funded jobs that easily they are union workers from enforcement to sales Corbett can't do shit about it. The T is what matters not eastern or western PA

Ga recently passed a sunday sales law
Now if only they would do away with dry counties I would be good.
I've never lived in a dry county but I recall a family reunion in tennessee that was held in one, my uncle took me and my cousin with him on a beer run and the lady at the store told him there were no beer sales in the county but she could rent him some beer cans, put a $20 on the counter and walked out with a case, had a similar thing happen with me in a bar with no liquor license, "cant sell you a beer but we can share what we have with friends, you should buy a cup of these peanuts for $3"
because there were no sunday sales in Ga, I've known where the bootleggers were since I was about 10, even as a kid I never had a problem getting beer or liquor if I wanted it

Many of you are having reading comprehension fails.
There has been NO change to the laws.
One branch of the three have voted for a bill to change the law. The House.
That still leaves the Senate and the Governor. Neither have acted.
The laws remain in place. The state stores remain as the source of the booze.

What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation.
