Hey queen, are the store bought mushrooms from a company called "mycopia" by any chance?

Pretty sure they are.  The reason I know:  they are the ones who have trademarked the name "Nebrodini Bianco" for plain old pleurotis nebrodensis.  Kinda like the "Trumpet Royale" name for p. eryngii.  I guess make it sound all exotic and people will like it!  Well, I'm not complaining as I didn't have any of their varieties in my arsenal and now I do.  The p. nebrodensis was extremely good and I have a bag of it close to fruiting right now.

Very nice grow...How'd the stems get so long? Mine were short minnies.
Luckily they still tasted yummy in those scrambled eggs.

Thanks Friend.  I expect it is strictly genetics.  I had hoped for shorter, FAT stems, but didn't get those.  The fat ones I've seen were uncased so that's why I skipped the casing.  However, to no avail!  :frown:

I agree the stems are delicious on these, whether short, fat, or skinny.

Probably buying a known culture or isolating for size would solve the problem; this is a clone from a rather smallish grocery store mushroom (and those were SUPER small, probably to keep them fresher).

I have two cultures that I am playing with.  The Sporeworks guy tends to be short fat stemmed and the one I got from AV via atricoz looks more like your grow M.  So basically I am agreeing with you.

A little update....  This bag is the culture from atricoz.

It is the same one that I posted earlier.  You can see that some of the smaller pins from the original picture have already aborted and the culture has selected what it wants to fruit.  If my past experience is right about half of the remaining ones will also abort.  Still not a terrible flush.

Oh and a single from a third flush bag.

That's very nice, Jeff, and a lot better pinset than mine, even though my clusters were fine.

I have a second bag, identical to this, same age and spawn, which has not yet produced a single pin.  No joke.

You case and I haven't.  Which might account for some of that nice pinset.

Just tell me you can look at this grow and not drool over those stems.  It really speeds ups my heart rate.  I want those stems.  This mushroom is so good I really can't believe it.

Thanks for sharing, and I mean that!!

PC did a great job on that grow.  Seen it in his sig a while back.  The thing I really like was the ease of the chamber he grew it in.  I have yet to see a flush that compares.

We have found our cased blocks to be amazingly resistant to contam. Some are on their 4th flush. We are over a pound on most blocks now and still no signs of contam despite them sitting beside green shiitake blocks.  This is also from atricoz. My biggest problem is cleaning them up. Time consuming. Do y'all really like them. They seem bland to me now. Maybe I am eating too much?  Curious about what y'all think flavor wise. The restaurants are buying them but I think mostly because they have never heard of them.

Looks like PC used a SGFC hence the fat stems are probably from cooler temps and lots of FAE.

Yours elongated from higher co2

Likely genetic and environmentally triggered (the stem controversy)

They are mild but I enjoy the texture.  Maybe I have just grown too many oysters/shiitakes and like the change of pace.  They have a real pleasant taste to me.
For me cleaning hasn't been that big of an issue.  Most of the casing is at the base of the stem.  I just cut it off.
I just do small scale stuff though AV.  I would imagine that on a larger scale the cleaning might be an issue.

I agree partially.  I have played with a couple of different strains that have yielded totally different results under the same conditions.  The Sporeworks strain looks more like what PC posted and the one from atricoz is more elongated.

Wouldn't a SGFC have far less FAE than power vented grow room?  Maybe increased Co2 plays a role in stem shape like it does with oysters?

Mine were grown in a Martha alongide Kings.  There's an ultrasonic running and there are cut-outs in the plastic on all sides and tops, with a fan on a timer that turns on for one minute out of every eight minutes, blowing fresh air directly into the greenhouse.

I know I have a lot of fresh air in there because my Kings have been getting really big caps.

It just may be genetics.

I love the taste.  Kind of like a milder Shitake.  Excellent texture that keeps some 'crunch' even when cooked and lightly browned.

try turing your fan off and letting the CO2 get really high. Bet both the kings and the poplars get fat assed!

They actually seem to get longer thinner stems in high CO2, similar to enoki.

Two different strains here at close to the same age.  The should fruit out at the same time.

This one is a sporeworks culture.  The stems are already fat.

and a different bag of the same culture from atricoz that I posted above.

These guys are side by side in the same fruiting chamber.  It should make for a nice comparison.

nice jeff. solid evidence i think for genetics to be the culprit like you said.
