Buying a recording console: Yamaha AW4416?

Being the "sound guy" for my band, and with us just about ready to begin recording our first album, we're ready to get our recording gear.
Our leadman has looked into this for a LOT longer than I have, and he thinks we should get the Yamaha AW4416 console. I think we should, too, cause I've looked it over and it's pretty nice
My question is, does anyone own, or has used, an AW4416 and could give me some first-hand info on how the ups and downs?
Does anyone know of another digital recording console that would be better?
Thanks!

I've used it, and my friend has it. I cant afford to and he wont let me borrow it to tell you the fine details. But you will be pleased with ypur purchase. Very user friendly.

I'm with Paradis on this one.. I have no experience with Yamaha's recording consoles...but I know for a fact that their mixers suck ass. Roland makes really good recording units..though they can be a little bit more complicated to figure out.. but they seem to have more features.
Ok, I just read a bunch of reviews on the AW4416.. and it seems to be a good unit.. but the main gripe is that it's software is way behind it's hardware.. and editing songs takes a lot more work then it should.. and just figuring out the controls can be a bitch due to 'annoying manuals' and a 'very tough learning curve'.
Basically, you're going to want to do a lot of research before you settle with something. I have used Roland 24 track recorders in the past and they simply kick ass. Very user friendly, with a little bit of reading and messing around. What it all comes down to is how much time you want to spend pressing buttons and figuring shit out, and how much money you are willing to spend. But I think you would be happy with either the Yamaha or a Roland unit.. but since I am biased I am going to say go with Roland.

Any reason you guys don't just record to a PC?
I'm ignorant and curious.

We want an integrated mixing console as well, for use on the road. We do have a computer for recording, as well.

How much you trying to spend? Cuz im working with the Mackie D8B console right now. Real nice, but it'll cost you some cash. if you are just recording at a club or something, its problably not the way to go, but you could always get an ADAT then take those tracks home and mix on your PC, which IMHO is a better way to go.

No the recording is all going to be done in our studio. I'm doing all the production and mastering which is why we wanted an integrated console like the AW.
Well we're trying to cap ourselves at around $5000. The AW4416 is going for around $3500 to $4000 last I checked.

We thought about buying everything separate and just have a couple racks...but it would end up costing more for everything we want than it will for the aw4416.

Korg make's some pretty good recoirding equipment, i was in the market for recording my shit last year, but didnt have alot of funds, So i settle with the Korg PXR4....$600 i think i paid, it's good, but i think its too small for what you want
