My friend patch cases and puts them right back into fruiting. He mists 4 to 6 times daily until pins appear and then mists 2 to 3 times daily thereafter.

Patch the holes that were left in the casing after harvesting and any gaps around the edges from substrate shrinkage.

I suggest just laying a new casing layer all together, a real thin one, but enough to rehydrate the casing. What good does patching only the holes do? Maybe allow for a more even flush next time, but it doesn't re-hydrate the substrate which is most important and what you want for bigger yields. Add a thin layer, 1/8th of an inch thick. Just so everything is covered.

Rehydrating is best accomplished by misting the casing, not replacing it.
