question regarding different strains growing together

hello, #1-my bud was wondering if it is bad to case 2 different stains together (b+ and Mexican) cuz he has two mex. jars, and 9 b+ jars, but only got to label one mex. jar...he doesnt know which is the other one. #2-not regarding diff. strains, but if a jar stops colonizing a little less than half way through, would it be bad if he dumped the whole jar in the dirt outside...i know people do it with fully colonized cakes and it grows pretty good, but he was worried about the uncolonized seed with it...possible contam? it hasnt happened to him, he's just preparing for the worst, hopefully he wont have to deal with it though. thanks in advance

kramer has had a good amount of experince with casings and spawn never mix your strains if you can avoid it two mexi-cub(?)1/2pints should get you a good flush if cased correctly says kramer

hey, HarvestTheBrain I wouldn't recomend it, I have tried mixing strains. The two strains will have to compete for the substrate. The healthy strain will take over, but waist alot of it energy fighting that it hinders its ability to properly flush.

They don't compete with the substrate, but they probably won't be able to mate so it'll be a lot harder for them both to get nutrients, so you'll get much smaller flushes. Unless for some reason they mate (unlikely.)

hey micro ,
You know what micro i think your right. they probalby won't compete for the substrate. they take turns sharing the substrate. One strain gets to use it one day, and the other gets it the other day. I guess all the stuff i've learned in my many years of biology was wrong. Survieal of the Fittest doesn't apply in todays market.
I'm sorry for the misinformation

No, you crumble them up, so normally they will join together (form clamp connections) and the whole myceliia will be able to share nutrients (they share genetics, too.) In this case they won't be able to as efficiently; they'll have to branch around each other and you have two seperate organisms with a much less effcient way of getting nutrients from one part of one particular organism to another.
They already colonized thier own substrate; the nutrients come from the vegitative mycelia.

ok, i guess he's gonna try to case each jar seperatly: 1 2 litre bottle for 1 cake...do you think having 1 cake per casing would have a lower amount of flushes?
