help with id.....
    #1798245 - 08/10/03 03:38 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

These are from another board. The poster asks if these are "magic" mushrooms, and another poster said that they're Morels and he should eat them.

The only info provided is that they're growing in "peat moss". They don't look like any Morels I've ever seen, but I'm not very experienced.

Any help? Obviously this guy shouldn't eat these if he has no clue what they are, but some confirmation from you experts would be great. Thanks in advance for any help....

They are some sort of Coprinus. The caps deliquesces and the shape of the cap are charteristics of Coprinus.

Falcon is correct, they are indeed Coprinus. Probably Coprinus lagopus. My books make no comment on ediblity. While it probably wouldn't hurt you, there is no good reason to eat them.

they taste somewhat like salty horse manure and the edibility is still questionable; so, as gumby said, there is no reason to eat them.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
