Mushroom Hunting and Bovine Presence
    #1798239 -

As you can see, if you aren't an idiot, cows won't give you a problem:

Rules to follow when cows are hanging out at your pickin' field:
1. No loud noises.
2. No jerky movements (remain calm when coming across a patch of 10 large shrooms).
3. Don't try to stare down any cows (i.e. no aggressive behavior, duh!).
4. Don't walk directly towards the cows. Instead, walk in a zig zag, sweeping pattern across the field. If you must go to a part of the field where the cows are, the cows will move on their own if you gradually close in on them..
5. Try to ignore them and they won't find you threatening (you're just a big bird for all they care).
6. If for some reason you must make a hasty retreat, make sure there is sufficient distance between you and the cows before you book it (stampedes generally aren't fun).

first field today the cows were shy and walked off when i got near.
the second field they all walked up to me while i was looking at some on the ground. all were curious, let me pet them on the head, sniffed me and all that...

HAHAHAHA! okay time to straighten out a few things...looking a cow directly in the eyes does jack shit. zig-zaging does jack shit. most cows find humans threatning because of the manner they are worked. the ones that dont are usually in more contact with people besides just when theyre in the cowpens. also some are "bad apples". theyre are asshole cows/bulls thatll run ya in a second. not tryin to be a dick but i grew up on 3000 acres down here and started working cows when i was about 6, so i have somewhat of an expertise in that area. just thought id let ya know. remember though, they are to be respected. some are VERY big. ty and happy shroomin(oh one more thing...dont try to cow tip, they dont sleep standing like horses do)

DISCLAIMER: Okay, first of all, my advice is based completely on substantial personal experience. Also, the cows I've dealt with are free range grazers. Maybe the cows you've run into were heavy drinkers, I don't know...

looking a cow directly in the eyes does jack shit.

Didja read this: "(i.e. no aggressive behavior, duh!)."?
I HAVE had bulls snort at me (and a few came after me) due to my body language (long ago I would just freeze and hope they would become disinterested... it doesn't work consistently).

zig-zaging does jack shit.
See disclaimer. Also, I'm not talking about running in such a pattern.... I'm merely talking about checking out the entire field in such a pattern.

not tryin to be a dick but i grew up on 3000 acres down here and started working cows when i was about 6, so i have somewhat of an expertise in that area. just thought id let ya know.

That's great... but I didn't come up with my rules in some arbitrary manner nor did I just cut and paste them from some jackass' website.

See in his second image, he knows to be friendly.

Raise that Cubensis high in the air after you pick it and show the beasts what you have come to their field for.

Keep shroomin,

Whenever I go out I try to stay away from the cows/bulls, but I've never had a problem w/ them even being close. Lucky I guess.

I find that it really puts them at ease if they see you take a dump in the field then turn around and sniff at it.
