I found a mushroom!
    #1795917 - 08/09/03 06:25 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys...

Been a while since I've posted any pics in this forum.  Found this cool mushroom while I was walking the dog today:

(Be sure to click on that last one and view the larger image...
The gills are really trippy-looking I think.)

I found this mushroom growing in rich soil beneath a pine tree.  It smells like anise.  I'm not attempting to take a spore print because I'm assuming this specimen is too old.  There were a small group of these mushrooms growing together, but this was the freshest specimen I found.  What you can't really see in the pics is that the gills have a pinkish color to them.

Any ideas on what this is?  There is nothing like it in my book.

It looks to me like you've found one of the large Lepiota species. IDing to species is difficult with an old specimen like that. Although the species is probably edible, that assumes it's in good condition and young and fresh. As old as that is, I don't recommend you eat it.

Happy mushrooming!

Looks like roots in pic 2, sticking out of the base.."what would you call that; tendrils",?? The gills are pretty trippy looking.. From the pic they look similar to a species I found a few weeks ago..crowded and meaty looking. Must have shocked you it looks pretty big... nice find..

actually, those are a couple pine needles that were stuck to the base of the mushroom... not tendrils or anything.

it was a pretty shocking find... i was just moseyin' along walkin' the dog and all the sudden, woah!  a big ol' cool-lookin' mushroom!

i was like !!!!
