Vermiculite/Compost Questions,Im Lost!
    #1794934 - 08/09/03 09:15 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Im new to cultivating,so I was wondering exactly what kind of Vermiculite and Compost(Store bought manure)to buy?And exaclty what is Vermiculite? Is there certain brands with less chemicals to contaminate your batch than others or what? And one last question, about how long does it take to grow a fairly large batch, say with a 12cc syringe? Thanks for any info.Peace!

If I remember right, vermiculite is molten rock that holds moisture well.

any verm is fine...
compost is sounding like it may be a big step 4 u!
I'd say time frame 4 the project would be 6-8 weeks from start of pf jars to spawn time to first flush!

no manure is fresh compost is broken down more so by bacteria. hence compst piles in peoples backyards and such same concept when you compost poo.

I mean it sounds like you have absolutley no experience in these matters... Not that thats a bad thing it just means the chances for failure are higher when trying advanced things like spawning before you learned how to succesfully utilize a cake :mushroom2:
But compost is fine, just mix in some vermiculite and peatmoss into the compost to lighten it so colonization is eased.
Also baking compost at 250 degrees in an oven for 90 mins works great for sterilization...
Compost has to be sterilizied or pasturized before it can be spawned or it will contaminate 99% of the time
