Dunking before casing...

I have a rather indepth question relating to dunking and casing. First, I would like to say that I am definatly an advocate of dunking cakes prior to fruiting. The water saturation of the mycelia definatly leads to larger, more prolific fruits. I also believe that the cold shocking serves to make the mycelia stop growing and begin forming pins.
Ideally, we would always want to have the mycelia absorb as much water as they can possibly hold. However, when myeclia is cased it is supposed to continue to grow through the casing layer. Therefore, if both aspects of dunking / cold shocking maintain, the mycelia will cease to grow due to the cold. Will this inhibit it's ability to grow through the casing layer? Will the temp have to be at 80ish degrees for a few days to re-stimulate the myecalia growth? Is a properly prepared casing layer going to give enough moisture that dunking is not necessary?
thanks

dunking before casing is good thing. incubating st 81 for about 7 days is a good thing. you know its kind of funny that you mentioned the cold shocking thing. the first time i cased i dunked and cold shocked the cakes. it was three 1/2 pints to be exact. steam sterilized verm in jars. then i cased useing the dummy method. all the shocking did was slow the network down. it resurfaced quickly and i pulled about 20 grams dried off first flush. tossed it under a tree and pulled shrooms off of it for two months after.hope i helped oh and to answer your question is dunking necessary yesssssssss!:)

ooh idea!!!!
fill your jars with water after colonization and incubate them with the water in the jar. then crumble and case, incubate some more but dont cold shock UNTIL you want the pins to form
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!

I think cold shocking is a useless step with cubs.

for some reason i don't really like cold shocking any more. stresses it out too much. if you have a stable temp in your incubator the cold shock down to 74-76 is enough. hey that sounds like a pretty good idea though:) but i definately think dunking is a must after 100% colonization.

I've found cold shocking to be an effective tool, although now I always combine it with dunking, or cold shock simply by cooling down my entire terrarium. I haven't found fridge cold shocking to be very effective... IMO
