Printing into water ala 9er tek
    #17932068 - 03/10/13 12:51 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I am unable to find any references to sporulating into water like in the 9er tek other than the tek itself.
I would link to it, but I don't have that status yet. I've been lurking for years but this is my first post.
Do any experienced cultivators have any comment on that technique? It seems like a great way to go, but I hope to find a little validation before trying it out.

Thanks,
wryly

this isn't really an "Advanced Mycology" question, however, you may find more love over in "Mushroom Cultivation" :smirk:

I thought that might be the issue. :-) I didn't want to cross post, so I have been trying to figure out how to delete this one. :-D

do yourself a favor and start reading up on agar work and working with spore prints; I have a deep fondness for spore syringes, but I'm starting to see myself grow away from that, real fast.

I read a lot recently about storage in sterile water and it seemed like a nice way to keep the spores longer. I've done agar work, and it's fine. I am really just getting going with WBS after a bad experience with rye years ago. I might include agar in the near future, and I'm printing on foil right now. Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, I last made agar medium (PDA)about six years ago and still have some in vacuum tight jars. Do you know if there is a shelf life, given no contams?

Thanks,
wryly

if I'm not mistaken, a properly made spore print will last significantly longer than a spore syringe...plus you can get little swipes off a print, to agar, if there's contams just transfer till you're clean, then to grain, then grain to grain (as opposed to using the whole damn syringe, or using part of it and risking contamination as you store it for later)

I dunno about the shelf life of your agar media, you may want to just...try it, got nothing to loose?

also, good luck with that WBS
