philosophy in politcs
    #1792995 - 08/08/03 06:51 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

philosophy is like politics you have to be a real grownup to be allowed to compete. The lot of you isn't. Leary fans still living in the 60's and 70's, having problems leaving their perfect cocoon like bubble in wich they exist, won't be able to come clean with these matters simply because of the reality of things and of how they are being done. It is to much for them. They fold in, shut, don't know what to do, etc. That's why real grownups have to do these things. Intelligent people who are experienced in their doings and do not hesitate when to make a commitment. Politcs and philosophy go hand in hand.

Who invented politcs again? Plato? Socrates? I forgot. Does anyone know who invented politcs on this board?

That's not what I mean. The first and greatest philosipher of the old world was Socrates, who questioned everything and was put to death due to his radical ideas by drinking the poison chalice. He had a pupil, he was Pluto. Pluto had an apprentice as well (who I can not remeber the name of now) and he or his protege was the father of politics politea That's the guy I mean.

Let me try to decipher what you're saying and address only the content..

For one thing, we are all not just a bunch of "Leary fans". There are many schools of thought when it comes to philosophy and spirituality.

Many of us "grown-ups" like to examine the beliefs that have been passed down to us. We question the prevailing view so our society doesn' t end up with nasty little things like nuclear annihilation, the Vietnam war, racism, political-correctness, military-industrial complex, etc.

I don't really see someone who "doesn't hesitate" to "make a commitment" as being necessarily intelligent. Many "unhesitant" people have while in monkey-mode damn near wiped out certain classes of people from this planet.

Having said all this, I do agree with some of what you say, however awkwardly. One cannot be pie-in-the-sky. One has to ground oneself and apply in a practical way one's beliefs. Accept humanity as it exists now ;don't get too far ahead of the pack. Or one tends to be hunted down and placed over a pile of dry tree branches.

It is possible to be so spiritually-minded that you are no earthly good.

The fellows name was Plato.

But hey, words and philosophy don' t matter that much in a practical world right? Hell he's been dead hundreds of years, his impact cannot really be seen anymore
