when my perlite if done I trash it because it is very cheap so it's ok to do so.I use my perlite for about a month or until it starts to smell up the chamber I use h202 with water and once it gets bad I trash it

Guess you are not paying the electicity/gas bill

I guess some of the problem with re-use is that there may be nutrient material that has got mixed up with it, so it can get recontaminated easily.

yes well perlite contams very easy right from the start that's why people add h202 to it even if the cakes are not touching the direct perlite and to re-use it would increase the chance of contams but if you use h202 and you are not setting the cakes directly on the perlite you may be ok.yeah the bills come with the rent psilmonkey hahahah

You could burn off the nutrients.  Bake the perlite at 500 degrees until it's dry, and then bake it for maybe thirty minutes longer -- that should render a lot of things into carbon.

Heh, I don't know how much a bag of perlite costs out there in the grand old USofA, or how much that elastictrickery costs by the kw/h, but I figure here its costs about one whole UK pound for a 5 litre bag of pertile, that should be about 1 dollar if you take into account that 17.5% sales tax we have.:) and we pay about 10 pence for a kw/h. I guess there is not mush difference

yeah it's a buck fifty here(canada)$1.50

once your perlite starts to smell most people trash it because the smell is contams and if you have a bubbler to give it air exchange and to put the humidity up the mist that it will make with the contam water that is in the perlite will cover the whole grow chamber and if the water drops on the cakes you may get contams.I'm not sure if you bake it that it kills all the contams but for $1.50 that dose 4 chambers or dose 1 chamber 4 times I wouldn't take the chance. But that is how I look at it.

I guarantee you that if you get that perlite up to 350 degrees F, there won't be anything growing on it that doesn't land there afterwards.
