State of mind
    #17896310 - 03/03/13 09:00 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

Recently I have noticed how dependent I am on on my state of mind. I noticed how switching way of thinking can influence my mood and well being.
It feels like a well planned cage and to escape it I have to play by rules, to meet my own expectations.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, how do you deal with it?

It's no longer clear that I can be dependent on anything, including my state of mind.  Basically I am a fish out of water pretty much everywhere I go.  I mean sure I can look down into the water and try to talk to those fish swimming around some of them are pretty too.  But that's how I feel.  Above them yet never being able to really associate on an algae eating level with them.  The are all far too Koi.

I deal with it by trying to recognize the self-defeating thought patterns and replace them with what fits my over-arching positive outlook on existence. If you look into nuero-semantics, a branch of NLP, they have techniques to change the "movies of our mind" which play, often unconsciously, to influence our moment-by-moment state of being. The universe is impersonal and will give you back whatever you give it - I think that's why so many people get stuck in these self-reinforcing negative cycles.

"I noticed how switching way of thinking can influence my mood and well being."

For me it works the other way around.

When my mood changes, my way of thinking changes.

I like your use of "over-arching positive outlook."

I don't think nature intends for us to be "bliss-ninnies" -- meaning, in a state of 24/7 bliss.  If that were the intention and it served our species well, we'd all be bliss-ninnies.

But it is definitely possible to maintain an over-arching positive outlook -- and if you do, it'll get you through life quite well and quite content.

Sometimes I feel like fish out of water when going to some parties or massive hangouts, just not my thing. I prefer solitary activities.

I see it as being possible both ways. Surely positive mood bears positive thoughts too. And positive thoughts positive mood:smile:

Your most empowering step in life will be to realise Absolute Reality as Yourself. At that point it's difficult to be negative, as it creates a consciousness which perceives a paradise, and it seems to fuel itself, so the consciousness is continually purified. Some people out there are having a great time... you can join them.

Of course this is only a recent thing for me, I have had emotional issues. I think it was recognising reality that resolved/began to resolve them.

Was that my problem, you mean? That seemed to be one of the problems, stemming from stress. Other issues were repressed anger leading to anxiety and depression, and social phobia. Social phobia is still there I think.

Or do you mean are you depersonalized and that is why I experience what I experience? It is the natural state, said Maharshi. How can the natural state be depersonalized? It is just you being you, but there is some confusion stemming from civilization/culture that makes it hard for people to grasp. It is just what you're doing without the doubt/fear. It is a joke, said Osho.

Completely change your routine, make sure you get exercise, sunshine, plenty of water, and cover basic nutrition.

Any time there is a negative state of mind merely observe that it is there and realize that it is not you specifically that is negative you are that which observe the state of mind itself.

Observe the clouds which represent conditioned states of mind and the sky will clear.

You've noticed 'how depedent I am on state of mind', but who is this 'I' that is dependent on mindstates?
Like you say your mood is dependent on state of mind, not 'I'
You are aware of mood, so 'mood' is not the definition of you, not the definition of 'I', so how can 'I' then depend on mood?
'I' is here regardless of mood

Good mood, bad mood, you are still you
So you are beyond moods, mood does not affect what you actually are, the same awareness is present in any mood

When it comes to Self-realization, mood is moot

^ LOL'd heartily , masterful way of words and very thought-provoking too

There are a few things to overcome which do condense into what Chronic said;

For example: the tetris effect - http://lifehacker.com/5982005/rewire-your-brain-for-positivity-and-happiness-using-the-tetris-effect

One meditation I found which works perfectly towards this, is to become aware of the forward flow of time. Your will either agrees or disagrees with the forward flow of time but either way, it is going to rush forwards.

So now, being aware of this Now-ness, Will yourself to do everything, EVERYTHING in the Now, as if you are a genie and by a click of your fingers, you are animating the entire universe. To expound, imagine your mind/mood is watching cars race by on the street. When you see a nice car, you want it to slow down, when you see a horrible car, you want it to disappear. Your mind is constantly shouting at these cars: "Go faster! Hurry!", "Slow down dude, come on", whatever else. But shouting whatever does not make them go any faster or slower, the cars do not really hear you or respond to that kind of attempt at communication.

So, will yourself to do Everything. If you see a bird flying, Will the bird around in the air, if you see a car, Will it to drive forward as it does, stop as it stops and so on and so forth. If you experience any event occuring which does not agree with what you have Willed, then your will arose from the ego; what bursts into reality is the Will of the Self, Truth. That which is falsehood simply does not occur.

This will bring you to the level of the Self, because your human will is identical to the will of what you already see. Consequently you shall experience a very restful dissolution into the infinite the more you practice this. This is actually my Go-To meditation as it is head and shoulders above everything else and all other techniques serve as a pointer towards this.

--------------------

"Everything there is, and all that there is, is a Pattern of unspeakable proportion. The Pattern contains everything that is, completely fixed in succession, all the minimal particles interconnected in every way that is. Every way that is is not every conceivable way, because not everything that can be conceived is manifest in the pattern."

"THE Human, you, is a miniscule but essential part of that pattern. In it lies complete fulfillment. It will never become something it is not, but it will never need to be anything else." - Wiccan_Seeker

"If boring drudgery was the way of the universe, everything would have killed itself long ago." - Spacerific
